A quick internet search says that vaporwave is a recent (specifically, about a decade old) music genre and art style; some of the text in the mode's description appears to be a vaporwave font. Activating it myself seems to only have one effect: adding four fields in the Style section of the Options menu: a Preview (which is blank and takes up most of the available screen space), and three modifiers for Hue, Brightness and Saturation. I think it might be a WIP system.

What's Vaporwave mode?

I'm pretty sure that it's supposed to add a user customizable vaporwave grid to the background, but also that it hasn't been implemented yet.
