Trying to Make Content

I'm new to forums and social medias so I don't know much, but I do know that I have a talent for writing and really want to contribute to TiTS and help offer more content to it's growing fan base. Is there some specific process or ritual that needs to happen, do I just message someone, or is content creation a more closed-gate kind of deal granted only to Fenoxo's personal friends and closest online peers? And should I be granted the privilege of sending drafts of content, how much would I be allowed to influence the PC, the world, and the lore before too much is too much?

Thank you very much. I couldn't find any threads like this for the life of me, not that I can actually effectively navigate this site yet. I assume this doesn't only apply to event submissions?
'Event Submissions' is just the umbrella under which writing projects go, so yes.

If you have questions on specific points of lore/game mechanics/characters/player agency/etc, don't hesitate to check the wiki, the pinned threads on top of the forums, or, as a last resort, post a question on the forums.

Thank you both very much for your time. I do have another question however, and hopefully the last one. I read through all the resources provided in the linked thread and one existing character does come to mind that I would like to touch up on with a few scenes: the Ben/Bess unit found on the surface of Tarkus. I felt that the Dating mechanic was half-done and only served as a transition between events before being greyed out. I would like to expand on that. There is, of course, one major problem: the author's profile reads that they have not been active for almost 3 years. How do I go about doing this without the original author's consent? Is it okay to just turn in my home-cooked expansion anyway?

Honestly if I were you I’d pick something else since JimT’s work is notorious for causing would be writers to burn out and never be heard from again! Some people say that JimT’s work is cursed but I personally think it’s just superstition and people just aren’t able to emulate his work and end up burning themselves out on it. Also not very many people want to try their hand at working on the nightmare that is Ben/Bess but if you want to try them go for it!

P.S. I’m not trying to dissuade you from writing I’m just saying that JimT’s work is notorious for causing would be writers to quit.

Trust me when I (and anyone else might say) please... do not open the can of worms that is Ben/Bess. They are literal code-spaghetti and is the prime example of how not to make a character. Start smaller if you want to write a scene for a character that hasn't been touched in a while!

Yikes... Alright, sounds like something I might want to avoid for the time being. Thanks for the warnings.

So before you're totally scared off, what content were you intending to write for Ben/Bess anyway?
I was hoping to expand a little on the Dating function and add the "give oral" function to intimate sex with Ben.

Very sound advice Misty!

Many, many people have failed and been criticized for starting too big.

Unless you're one of those special gung-ho super idiots that get lucky like me or @Night Trap, lol.

Not a writer but an Extrameet date is an option to start small
That sounds like it would be a really good starting place. No combat, a pre-established introduction, and a very short but sweet collection of events. Starting there and working up to an encounter NPC sounds like a good plan. Thanks.
Few people have an accurate perception of what went into Bess/n, and even most people that are like "don't do a Bess thing, she's too complicated" still don't have the full grasp of just how convoluted and honestly ass-backwards writing for her would be. I think her project document is somewhere in the realm of like 200 pages? Some absurd number. Sifting through all that, especially stuff that's so old and outdated, would be a nightmare.

You're not the first person to really like Bess/n and want to do something for him/her tho, it's a pretty common thing because it's a well-liked piece of content.

There's still plenty of things you could do, though! And, unlike many people that come in here and talk about writing things, you seem like you have a sensible head on your shoulders and can interact with people in a respectful, well-mannered fashion. That already puts you ahead of many would-be writing candidates, so I encourage you to find a bite-sized beginner's project and give it a shot! :)
Thanks! I really appreciate the advice, the warnings, the encouragement, and the compliment is a really nice cherry on top. I'm actually pretty well versed with the basics of C++, so maybe that could help with things like parsers. Integers and functions sounds like they fit very similarly into a piece of code as parsers fit into narrative. Here's hoping it'll give me an edge in writing!

So I'm working on the skeleton of an NPC for Tavros and I can't think of many areas that would suit them. Would writing an area tile be permitted? How would I go about doing that?

you wouldn't have much help from any of our coders because Gedan was the one that wrestled Bess into the dirt and no one else has dared touch her since, and everyone would hold a Bess/n expansion to an absurd and unreachable standard.

I would happily code any Bess/Ben content that fits the character. Wouldnt even mind adding the parsers myself. In fact, I wasnt so bad at writing, I would have added some stuff myself long ago.

But you are right, Bess/Ben has a huge amount of variants, so if anyone intends to write a scene, they need a good idea of the possible variations that are required for that scenes. It's perhaps the worst NPC a writer can possibly use as a starting point.

As long as you show/describe clearly where it is on the map for the coder, and write a blurb for it. If your NPC isn't always in the square, the blurb has to account for that.

Tavros is massive and has a lot of blank areas (particularly on the res deck, written specifically to stick random NPCs), so regardless of what your NPC is like I'm not all that convinced there isn't anywhere extant that you couldn't put them.

Good grief this chews through time like nobody's business, and I don't have a whole lot of that to begin with. I'm still brainstorming NPC ideas that may be easy enough for me to pull off as a newbie, but not too simple as to be uninteresting during writing. Is there a specific template of organization I should be following when I send it in, or does it just need to be easy to follow and clearly coherent in transition?

So I've been working on multiple projects, but before I throw my hat in the ring for originality, I'm thinking of adding a few scenes to one of the newest mobs, the male Punk Secop. Specifically, adding scenes for characters wielding masculine endowments or lacking feminine ones. Think that would be a viable option? Nothing too crazy, mind you, just an oral session for unaroused PCs who don't want to leave him hanging, and two anal scenes with either the PC or the Kaithrit receiving.

TBH the main hassle for creating things in TiTS is that the resource documents aren't updated with parsers but you're told to make the parsers/coding as good as possible.

Adding scenes for already-in things is always preferred and recommended to new folks for a reason. Maybe reach out to whoever wrote it for additional info + guidance if you're actually serious.

Sex scenes for pre-existing characters can be done relatively quick, but they are unlikely to be accepted unless they are really good and fit the character. Basically because they are not your character, the standards are higher.

There is something called ExtraMeet. It's basically space tinder and the main reason it's there is for new people to contribute without setting the standards too high when it comes to quality and quantity. I recommend you make an original character and a simple sex scene for the ExtraMeet as your first project. Keep it simple, don't be like me and churn out 20 pages worth of content in 3 days and still be half way done because you don't know how to stop.

Look, most people come here saying they are gonna write this or that, set their standards too high, their goals too ambitious, some don't even know how to write porn yet they try to make a new npc with a freaking quest and 20 sex scenes and they give up after spending 3 hours trying to write the description. You need to ask yourself this. Can I write this? Can I make a reasonable sized project with reasonable goals? Can I accept criticism or the fact that what I write can be shot down and scrapped? If that happens, can I begin a new project without losing my motivation?

How would I go about doing this? I'm still not quite familiar with the forum and it's navigation, and the person who wrote it is Fenoxo.

Discord is a good option. Private messages is another. In general, the forums are a more official method for submitting and finding content drops; the Discord is generally used for communication. That's why the forum isn't as lively as it used to be (but still receives plenty of use).

I've found that a great many hobbies are, indeed, an exercise of tanacity, especially so when the road to mastery is filled with the bumps of criticism and scrapped projects. Guitar, video gaming, writing, art; I'm well aware that this might be a difficult hobby to pick up, especially since I'm still shaking off the rust accumulated by almost two years of abstinence from writing fiction as a whole, but I think the fact that I came back - to a public project, no less - is at least a small indicator that I'm not that easy to put off. I can take a blow to the ego when someone says it's not good enough. I think I have what it takes to do this, even if my time is divided by things like my job, my social life, school, learning new things.
Sorry if this seemed like long-winded rant, but I just want to establish that I have confidence in my motivational integrity.
As for Extrameet, it just feels too simple; too quick and easy. I get that's what a beginner's project should be, but I have a habit of aiming just a smidgen higher than most say I ought to. I feel a minor expansion to an existing mob is just my speed for now, but if that doesn't work, sure. Extrameet is a good fallback.

Still, if you plan on making an xpack for an existing npc you've better get your facts straight. You'll need to fully understand his/her personality and make the scene believable. An NPc who's a sub on most scenes cannot suddently turn into a hardcore BDSM dommy monster and a hardass mercenary cannot suddenly become a crying, quivering mess after a slap.

Noted. I appreciate the advice and I'll do my best to adhere to it.
