I love the game; but it's 2026, is there any way you can use a term other than "shemale"? It doesn't take a lot of effort to not be offensive. Thanks!

Y'know, I forget sometimes that parts of this game were written in... what, 2018? Maybe earlier?
There used to be a push for the devs to implement a "word replacement" setting like the one on TiTS, but I don't know if that idea ever went past that or if it was even an idea in the first place
Apparently it wouldn't work in CoC2 for coding reasons. Fwiw they did remove a lot of the specific slur you're talking about a while ago, so it might be worth putting it in a bug report if they missed it? I'm guessing its the one in the character description, because iirc that's the only one left in the game
The reason I ask this is because its very easy (on steam anyway) to manually remove if that's the one you're referring to

This complaint actually happens every so often, generally at least once a year. The term shemale was popularized by the porn industry described trans actors with breasts and a penis. During the dawn of the internet, the term referred to porn characters who were basically female but with a penis instead of a vagina, basically a futanari without a vagina. Simultaneously, with the rise of the trans movement, the same term gradually became considered as a slur.
CoC II basically started as Fenoxo's unnamed text game in the late 2000s when that term was still popular on the internet for the porn context and not considered very hostile in the trans context.
Ryn who is the character that was most commonly referred to as a shemale is not trans. Shemale was not used in the context of the game as a slur against trans people.
There are several slurs and insults that sometimes become so divorced from their original context that the people using them don't even realize that they are using a word that is derogatory to a people. A lot of people who use the word gypped probably don't even know who the Romani people even are.
I can still understand if the word shemale makes someone uncomfortable.

I don't recall ryn ever getting called that in game ngl.
Having done ctrl F through the companions text file to confirm my memories, the only context it comes up in is if the Pc has breasts and a penis in some scenes with brint (which is presumably why I assumed they only existed in character description, as I very rarely have sex with Brint, he's not really my type) The term Ryn seems to usually have is "dickgirl"
Also as stated upthread, the devs did remove a bunch of references to it, so they clearly are aware of the issues with it
Definitely put it in a bug/typo report if the devs have already been removing prior uses of it. This game has an absolutely insane amount of text in it, it's really hard to comb through all of it to find little things like that unless you know exactly where to look. Just making this thread and not specifying won't really help.
