I only play this game on my phone, but the interface leaves much to be desired. I know it's probably a small minority that play like me, but there would probably be more if the interface was better!
I made a rough mockup of a layout that would make better use of limited screen real estate out of frustration, but I don't actually know anything about UI design so it's not exactly perfect either.
As a side note, I think it's kinda weird that the core stats are on the main screen even in the desktop version. I mean, there's lots of space in the desktop version, but it would make more sense to switch the character appearance page to a character page with appearance as just one of the sub-pages, right? I'm sure you could find something better to fill the space, even if it's just a menu selector that uses text instead of icons. And since I'm off-topic now anyway, I'd love to see hovertext support for the map showing names of rooms before you actually go there, perhaps limited to places you've been.
