"How was your day today, dear?"

Kiyoko hmphed. "We're not married, Tetsuya."

Tetsuya refocused. "How was your day, Lady Otomo?"

Kiyoko pinched her brow. "Now you're being too formal, and it's inappropriate to call me that since we're nearly equal in rank."

Tetsuya sighed. "Then how would you like me to address you?"

Kiyoko sagged into her seat. "I don't know. Court lessons never covered this type of situation." She let her face fall onto the table. There were plenty of court lessons on how wives should act when married to the same husband and while rare, there were even lessons on the opposite situation.

Unfortunately, they were silent towards Kiyoko's and Tetsuya's present circumstances where they were married to a person who was a wife to one and a husband to the other. The Home Country would be scandalized if they ever bothered to set their eyes towards their wayward colony.

It was just Kiyoko's luck to fall in love with the same person as Tetsuya. Yet she couldn’t blame them. The Champion of Keros was a magnificent and beautiful being, always there when they weren't off saving the world.

The Champion made it all seem so effortless, seamlessly blending their role as a dutiful provider to her, while being a faithful companion to him. Their contrasting roles didn’t conflict; instead, they amplified each other. Kiyoko, her face still hidden against the table, blushed deeply at how vigorously the Champion had sired children with her, matched only by their ability to bear Tetsuya's children.

Tetsuya, seemingly reading her mind, looked away, his own face red. Kiyoko smiled. And therein lay the awkward part of her relationship, Tetsuya. They weren’t competitors for the Champion’s affection; the Champion went to great lengths to prevent even the beginnings of such feelings, yet they weren’t lovers either. More than once, as they laid down in bed for the night, they had interlocked hands on each side of the Champion, only to wake embarrassed and realize it was each other’s fingers they had grasped.

They were closer than roommates, but apart from lovers. Kiyoko held no eros toward Tetsuya, and Tetsuya felt no urge when he beheld her body, reacting as one might to a sibling in a state of undress.

Yet there was something between them. They helped and supported each other, just as they both did in their relationship with the Champion. Tetsuya giggled, remembering how their children had often tried to needle the parents into spoiling them, only to find a stone wall bracing all three.

Tetsuya and Kiyoko didn’t know exactly what they were to each other, but they had the rest of their lives with their shared beloved to find out.
