The Death of Google Play

So I just found out I can't listen to music files I have saved to my Android (Samsung) phone because Google Play died, apparently because YouTube is a greedy piece of shit and paid enough money to have subscriptions shunted their way (my interpretation).

Does anyone know of any SIMPLE apps I can use to replace Google Play? All I want to do is play the song files I have saved to my phone. I don't want any ads, subscriptions, suggestions for other bands...all I want to do is listen to music while I walk and/or drive.

Some apps I've heard of include Music Player Go, Poweramp Music Player, Omnia Music Player, and Pulsar Music Player.

To be honest, I fucking miss the days of my Microsoft Zune. It was simple and easy to use, and I had it set to automatically update with whatever new music I had saved to my laptop whenever I plugged it in. It also didn't take 40 uploads per year to use.

They moved everything over to youtube music. There was window of a few months to migrate your music over.

I use Foobar2000

I play all if my music on Pi Music Player. No giant ads plastered across your screen or waiting periods (they put tiny ads at the bottom and in no way impede you.)

I'm not sure about simplicity since I haven't used any other to compare it to but VLC is my media player of choice on any platform.

I have VLC on my laptop, but for phones? Does it take a ton of memory?

So, when did you get your phone? Does it not have the default "Samsung Music" app?
If not I suppose you could check your disabled apps in case it was disabled by default.

VLC on the Google Play Store is only 27MB for the initial download (at least that's what I was seeing on my mobile device); although that is subsequent to change per update basis (sometimes some apps are like 50MB updates, which exponentially changes the amount of storage they use overtime; aside from cache).

~120MB base app + some amount based on how many files it has scanned. The only gripes I have with it is that it's sometimes slow to start because it always scans for new files on startup and it doesn't remember where you stopped listening when you close the app but everything else is perfectly serviceable. Some people are also complaining about crashes on Android 11 but I've never had any so can't comment on that.

Oh it's old. It's a Samsung G530A. It still works (other than a built-in music player which should be BASIC ON EVERY SMART PHONE EVER) so I've never seen any reason to replace it.

It USED TO, until Google apparently got bought out by YouTube.
Right, well do you have the "Galaxy Store" app (might also be called "Galaxy Apps")? If you do I'd suggest opening that up and typing in "Samsung Music"; if it shows up as available to download then you're sorted with the default music player app for your phone.

If not, well we can keep on speculating; but as far as I know only Google Play Music got rekt; due to Google rather wanting to integrate with YouTube Music for competition with Spotify (after they invested money into Youtube Music in the first place).

EDIT: Nabbed the PDF of the User Manual for your phone (see attached)

Told you it was greed!

As for the rest...I'll give it a shot. Thanks.

There's also this. Super compact, simple design, no ads. Tested it out on my old grand prime and it works like a charm.
