The planet rush. Held every few centuries, the great expansion effort is many things to many people. To the enterprising individual, however, it is quite possibly the single greatest opportunity they will see in their lifetime. Scouts and explorers spread out through the void, searching for anything of value. Mineral rich asteroids, potential mining planets, and the rarest jewel of all... life sustaining planets. The government, and corporations, are willing to pay top dollar for the coordinates to such treasures, and this ensures that there are always plenty of eager new planet rushers ready and waiting when the time comes to expand the galactic borders. The only question is: who will return home victorious, and who will succumb to the hidden dangers of the frontier?
The engines of the Phalanx hummed softly as the small, personal scout ship slowly glided through the void of space. The area that it currently plumbed was as good a place as any to search. Unfortunately, that meant long hours of simply cruising through space while the instruments scanned the surroundings. That left the crew plenty of time to be bored out of their minds.
