Stuck after Bear Man on Tarkus

Downloaded the game through the website normally, clean install. Tarkus, residential floor, cannot do anything after the Bear Man talks to me.

Tavros, meeting Bhakar for the first time. Same here! There's no way to progress the game from here...

The only way I was able to get past this was by saving right before that square on the map, then loading a save file in 0.9.022 and doing Bhakar's initial meeting. I then saved again, and reloaded that save in 0.9.023 and kept playing from there. Downgrading to progress in this game seems to be par for the course when each new "update" seems to break a dozen things that worked fine in the previous release.
