Some ideas of mine

Alright, so this may or may not somewhat go against what this forum is for, but I'll try anyway.

In essence, I would like to ask the community what they think about the concepts I'll present in this thread, and whether there's any interest/want for such things. They're two ideas that I have on my "Ideas List" that I would like to work on once I've finished Laethyr, but first I would like to hear your thoughts.

The first idea consists out of two separate things, namely an NPC with limited content, which I've named Kharon Ironwing for the time being. Kharon is a weapon smith who owns a small store on Tavros named "The Silverbird Collective". Here, he sells high-quality replicas of historical Terran swords, such as Claymores, Katanas, Rapiers, etc. Though they are incredibly expensive (I'm thinking around 10 thousand credits per piece), they'll have stats to match the price. On top of that, he'll also offer certain upgrades for certain weapons (the exact details of which still have to be decided).
At random times, "The Silverbird Collective" will be closed as Kharon needs to make deliveries or pick up supplies, meaning that the player will not always have acces to his services.

The second idea is a bit bigger than the first one, but I'd like to propose the idea anyways. This will be another NPC, which I've named R. E. Campbellas for the time being. What I think is a bit different about this character is that you won't actually meet her until the end of her content. Instead, you'll communicate through written letters. This way, both the player and Campbellas can be as untruthful or honest as they want, without the other knowing about it. And given the fact that words on a page can be interpreted by the reader in a much different fashion than the writer intended, I think it could make for some interesting mind play.

Regardless, let me know what you think. Again, I would like to work on these once I get my hands off of Laethyr, but that might still be a little while off.

Thank you for your time, and fare well.

Yours truly, Miakoda.

I would go for R. E. Campbellas as she seems more interesting and has a lot of potential in terms of character development and arcs after meeting her in person

I like both of your ideas! Campbell's is an interesting concept compared to how the PC usually goes about meeting NPCs. I'm also interested in your reasonings for putting a weapons dealer on Tavros specifically, too.

It's a pretty cruel/rewarding reason; basically I want the early player (if they're playing without cheats) to see what kind of weapons will be available in the late game, but be unable to buy them. A cocktease, of sorts. But then, once you amount enough credits, you'll be able to finally purchase that weapon you saw so long ago. Also, I found little reason to specifically put it anywhere else.

Oh I would like to work on both, to be honest. This is just so that I can get a good grasp of whether or not people think this would actually be worth the time to write.

But I'm glad you guys seem so interested in Campbellas. I wasn't sure about how people would react, given that you never actually see her until the end, but this just motivates me more! And this is just an idea that I'm going to toss out there (no promise if I'm actually going to use it), but I might include something along the lines of Campbellas' suicide if the player lies too much.

Now I'm intrigued! It seems like an odd choice to put in a porn game. I'm assuming it won't be particularly heavy or depressing then?

It really depends on how deep I want to go into her lore, really. If I want to do just enough, perhaps not. However, if at all possible, I want to make the player feel bad about at the least. We'll see what happens when I get there.

Campbella definitely has some immense potential for greatness, but will likely be extremely easy to screw up or burn yourself out on. Best of luck, my friend.

I think I might post a few more in here, partly as a reminder to myself, but also to see the community response.

1. Pippin Driscoll. She's a (fanfir? I haven't decided yet) author who specializes in sci-fi and fantasy books. As such, she's usually extremely busy gathering information and scanning through source content to make sure she get's the most out of her stories. She can be encountered on *insert planet here*, where you'll first need to impress her before she'll even allow you to talk to her (thank you @Fr0sty for the idea). After that, the main obstacle with her is that she has very little time for you due to the nature of her job. I may also include the option for her to travel across planets, but we'll see when I get there. Kharon and R. E. Campbellas hold priority in my book.

2. The Email from Mom. Now I know this is a controversial topic (hell, I actually wrote an entire paragraph explaining why writing content for mom is a bad idea), which is why I'm going to limit myself to the absolute most I can go without fucking things up for other people. It'll just be a little "hello, I'm still alive and thinking of you" letter, a sign that she's there and still alive. More than that I don't plan on making it.

3. This one is really self-explanatory: "Blast From The Past", the Cardaeth Transformer. If Laethyr is accepted, I can imagine the Cardaeth being a pretty interesting race to in-game scientists considering they're extinct. And who wouldn't want to win a nobel prize for (supposedly) allowing one to transform into an extinct species?

I still have a few other ideas, but those ones are on the edge of the "I'm never going to write this because of such and such" cliff, so I will not share them here. As with the previous post, I'd like to hear what you people think, and whether or not these ideas are worth pursuing.

I like the Pippin idea, although it seems close to another idea I was reading where you give items to a new NPC for them to write poetry about it. I completely forget whose idea it was, though. More obscure transformations are always cool, too! And about the email from mom, I always found it weird that you never heard anything about her at all after the character creation, but I get why (too many variables). An email that's she's still alive and doing well would be nice.

Oh right, that's a thing as well. Mmmh... Well, Pippin is still in the idea phase; I have plenty of times to make changes to her story so that she'll become as unique as the rest of them. The Email from Mom might actually be something I could do fairly quickly, so I may or may not submit that before I finish Laethyr, if only to test the strictness of the application proces.

You're gonna have to change that name, if you want a bit of advice. Because the name Pippin is way too close to 'Pippa', aka that pig girl on Uveto.
And it's kinda a hassle for some folk to remember names as is, best not to run the risk of confusing them.

Oldschool swords are cool, but oldschool axes are cooler (just sugestion).

And I'm really looking formaward to Campbella, I like the concept, don't know why I like getting emails that are not spam, both irl and in game

Might change it to historical terran weapons, instead of specifically swords. Every scene I improvised with him has involved a Kusarigama in one way or another, and that thing isn't really a sword.

Campbella
Also, her name is Campbellas. R. E. Campbellas. You're not the first one to get it wrong.

Hey just wanted to check how the project was going? Specifically, "The Silverbird Collective." I was intrigued a few weeks ago as I am a fan of the medieval genre, having Terran weaponry would 'ruffle mah jimmies' and force me to invest in a melee character.

Also, I upvote everything said here^^^^

You can easily gain 10 000-20 000 in an 1/2 hour, selling Slime tf and finding rocks (plus quest, turning tricks, repeatedly selling your cum).Unless you put a high physique requirement, you'll break the game.
But the kusarigama is so cool...Please write and submit it...

I like your enthusiasm. Recent events have taken my time away from writing a bit, but I'm hoping to begin putting the Silverbird Collective on paper as a side project whilst I finish Laethyr.

I just need to figure out how to actually put the Kusarigama to use; whether I'll use it properly, or if I'll have Steele swing the blade instead of the weight

Wait, what? Is this a melee weapon or a ranged weapon? Ooh, wait, you're making it a combination of the two, right? Awesome!

As for what to throw, definately the weight. It's what would be used in real life, and, just a suggestion here, but you could also give the attack a chance to stun.

Yeah, a combination of the two seems to be the most appropriate use for a weapon like this. I'll just have to think of a way to incorporate that, because I don't recall an existing weapon acting as both a ranged and melee weapon. The Kusarigama would probably take up both spaces if it'll take up both functions, or it could take up one space and be used as either melee or ranged.

Just give the weapon both the penetrative and kinetic flag
That does make sense in term of the weapon, but that doesn't fully resolve the issue of the weapon acting as both ranged and melee.

Make it ranged...
A ranged weapon can hit at point-blank range
A melee weapon cannot hit from a distance
