Soft lock?

I think I got stuck in that whole hunt thing, I'm level 4 and can't beat the mining things. Is there any way around this, it won't let me leave as well.

"Hunt thing"? "Mining things"? You're not giving us a lot of info to go on. Are you talking about Penny's recruitment quest?

Help us out by giving us more info, like what game version are you playing? Also, attach a save file here in this thread; one of us can take a look.

Can't you just say you don't want to fight the mining things in Penny's Quest? And like, it sucks cause that's not the good end to it, but afaik that's the only way out.

I thought there was a back off option... ohh, that option must just let you take a moment to rest.
Anyway with really good RNG you can beat the quest at too-low a level if you're willing to save scum until you've beat it, Penny does good damage to the bots so if she focus fires them down and they don't hit you you can win... just have to get quite lucky

Update: turned on easy mode and beat them then turned it right back off.
