Shield of Brawn Reduces Companion Femininity, Ostensibly

Since the Shield of Brawn has been equipped in my playthrough, companions have had combat text expressing dropping femininity when they prevent crits. I have no idea if this means anything for their actual statistics, but even if it doesn't (which seems likely), the text probably shouldn't be displaying.

I'm using the public build on this website with the version current as of the date of this message.

Necroing because I just had the same thing happen. I thought the thing just didn't work (shields block crits, right?) When I suddenly noticed Quin "becoming more masculine" - and from the looks of his profile, his balls grew, lucky bastard. I'll try and get a save later, but here's the before and after:
