I just wanted to ask people what their Opinion would be on the Legend of Queen Opala game series and what you think about what the patreon money goes into by the developer.

I´ll be honest and say that my view on the games is that they are meh and i honestly drop my jaw to the floor when i see what some of that patreon money went into.

Can't really give a vote since I've only played the first game. Honestly the game was pretty good but some of the unlockable art that was used was fucking disgusting.

Well the other games aren't really that much different since the maker uses the same engine for all of the games. And i agree with you on the art, some good, some awesome and some disgusting.

It was pretty good, at the time. Impressive use of the open-end Story with multiple paths.

But, after one play through, I had no motivation to play through any of the other paths.
The fighting was was just way too tedious.

It's not even that it's a slog to get through, its that the story itself is incredibly dragged out with minimal content to keep you interested and the art is a very mixed bag and much of that locked behind complex hunts and quests that even Ogre Battle wouldn't bother with.

The fact that the 3rd game is a prequel tells me the franchise is hitting its nadir, nothing like making the longest game in the series have an ending we already know. Literally nothing we do is going to change the story of the latter 2 games, that's the nature of a prequel after all.

The latest Queen Opala lets you choose between 2 protagonists drawn by eastern artists and 3 protagonists drawn by western artists meaning that most of the scenes have to drawn and paid for 5 different times.

It is complete madness.

Its great variety in theory but considering one of the major artists is Sparrow...whom anyone can admit is very...niche in his style, that limits the western side a lot if you aren't a fan.

Well what was great about Queen Opala is that it was a western made erotic RPG that okay and complete. Lets not forget that that was amazing... 10 years ago?

Right, at the time it was new and impressive...but it hasn't actually changed anything or improved anything. There's literally no quality shift from 1-2 and barely anything with Origins. Yes it's good not to fix what isn't broken but with games and tech you gotta keep level as it were. Honestly, The Last Sovereign is looking like it'll be taking LOQO's crown in terms of long and quality western H games.

LoQO hasn't done anything wrong. They are just the medium sized fish that has been poured out of the puddle and into the modestly sized lake where several large fish exist.

But rather then funneling the bulk of that nostalgia based money that into their own wallet they are shoving as much as they can into other peoples wallets in an attempt to marginally improve the value of their game.

Anyway... there are plenty of just as successful games on Patreon with much less credibility then LoQO.

I mean no one expects LoQO to implode like Breeding Season right?

I see what you mean, and the effort and care is genuine...but that doesn't change that the series as a whole has stagnated to the point where most of the positive PR is coming from fan art efforts rather than the games themselves, some of it better than the in game content ironically.

Yeah, all of that is true, but I still enjoyed the games despite all of the flaws. I usually play with CheatEngine to reduce most of the grind.

While I agree with a lot of the criticism in this post, I have to say I have a lot of respect for someone on their way to completing their third decent size game when most people in our field flake before even getting through one.

Did any of you check the Patreon rewards. Like the one where he get's a famous porn star to make a porno about his game and the one where wow the main character gets 21 romance scenes in the game that is over 4 hours.

You don't need to know!
The game in itself is forgettable, the main problems are:

-The combat system isn't interesting, in fact the enemy balance and everything is the standard, for short games it's okay (that's why legend of queen opala was the best on that point), however for long ones it's annoying and long.
-The game doesn't use any special scripts and it's incredibly annoying, for example what Gabe did so that people could run... let's just say it's the worst solution, with the money that the patreon is getting it wouldn't be bad to pay someone to script some core mechanics...
-The game wastes resources in 3 different types of art, i found that having 2 was a bit too much, but 3?, i would prefer x3 scenes better than different types of art...
-The maps use rpg maker assets, there are many free assets that would be better for the game, it's a matter of finding them.
-The game is made overly grindy and Gabe is forcing people to visit a map multiple times, it is forced and unnecessary.
-The equipment, stats, menus... not even one menu is changed.
-The storyline is standard, be it in the first one or the second it just did it's job
-You don't truly feel any changes in the world of the game, it's a static world.

However let's say one say clear, the best points are the characters, and the sex scenes are good, with those points people are able to forgive those many bad things. But getting someone to script some things it's an investment!, it can later be used in future games and give a better feeling.

I think this is it, really. They're pretty mediocre and you're either into the type of kinks Opala caters to or you aren't, but actually completed smut games feat. more than one type of asset are rare enough, never mind whole series of them, that they have to be viewed as an accomplishment. The bar is low.

So I'm guessing it's a game that doesn't go for things most people find reasonably appealing, and instead stuff few people find REALLY appealing?

They're decent RPG maker games with porn tacked on. Which isn't inherently bad, but I never did really understand the appeal.

Hell, adding onto that it's both a decent RPG maker game, which is on the rare side, as well as a decent RPG maker game with porn, which is a feat practically unheard of, despite RPG maker being so lousy with them.

For me the games don´t have enough content as a hentai rpg and i´m not counting the voyeur scenes since i don´t want to play a game where the MC does not do the scenes himself.

Kinda a difference seeing how the bought art is used differently when you compare roundscape and LOQO. In Roundscape the Pictures are given their own quest while in in LOQO they are made into something to randomly collect.

it wasn't bad but it wasn't amazing. It was the first rpg maker porn game I played, but it never really evolved.

I've only played through the second game.

• It was actually pretty fun till the third act (when you get back her palace and after), and the whole game becomes a massive grind from there out. Apparently the enemies were scaled with the assumption that all players were grinding during the new act's development. New players; myself included, hit a brick wall. At ramming speed. CheatEngine saved the day. But it shouldn't have had to.
• The characters were fine, though their movesets were stale and really unbalanced.
• Multiple paths and limited party member choices lead to replay value in theory. But in practice I'd never play it again, so it was just lost content.
• I wasn't fond of the art. As was said above, why hedge your bets and end up with iffy stuff on both sides? Better to put together your artist budget and go for something of better quality.

But, finishing stuff is hard. Props to them for that.

I love the new one since there is a lot more focus on the MC fucking the girls rather than just random animals and monsters, and the protag being a dual wielding plate wearer doesn't hurt
