Alright so time to lay this out at long last.

Apologies if it's stated in game and I just missed it, but why is Shade so protective of Amara, to the point that she's willing to do some dirty work for the Black Void?

I get that it's a cruel galaxy, and that you gotta do what you gotta do to survive, but Kiro and Kara have been in the same boat, and they certainly don't approve of the Void. I don't even know if they've even so much as killed anyone before (Dr. Po notwithstanding). And Amara herself is likely responsible for the deaths, kidnapping, enslavement, mind breaking, rape, and God knows what else of a lot of innocent people. Shade certainly doesn't seem like the kind of person who would get involved with that kinda stuff. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised at all if she's never even killed anyone before, either. And furthermore, she must know about the Voids huge slave trafficking ring. What does she think about that, and how is she able to look past all of it and defend and support Amara?

And I understand that Amara is the parent of their child, but that doesn't really seem like a good reason to throw your lot in with one of the most wanted people in the galaxy. If anything, it's a good reason not to.

Also, it says right on the wiki that Amara has left many a bastard in her wake across the galaxy, so what's so different about Astra and Shade that she would actually, ya know, pursue and maintain a relationship with them instead of just humping and dumping?

Honestly, the more I think about it, the less sense it really makes for me. I just can't for the life of me think of how and why Shade is able to look past all of the terrible things Amara has done, except for her simply being much darker at heart than she first appears, not to mention why Amara would reciprocate.

Can anyone help me on this? It's been bugging me for lord knows how long.

No idea on Shade's part, but on Amara's part:

This is because Shade basically forced her to be involved in Astra's life.

You have basically answered your own question. Amara is the father of Shade's daughter and for whatever reasons she remains present in Astra's life. For Shade, much like it is for most of people, the wellbeing of her own daughter is far more important than whatever fate Amara might wreck on some unlucky randos.

You might think Amara being a criminal outweighs being a parent figure, but Shade clearly disagrees with you on this. It's possible Amara is a better parent than we know (given we pretty much know nothing about what she's like in this regard)

That explains the how, but not the why. Why was Shade so desperate to have Amara be involved? And why did Amara not just say no and bail? Not to throw shade, (ba dum tis!) but how did Shade even manage to force Amara anyway? Cuz despite how badass that kitty milf is, I really can't see how it would happen anyway.

As I alluded to before, I'm pretty sure Amara being involved is more of a hazard than a boon to Astra. Amara is likely one of the most wanted and hated people in the galaxy, so God knows what would happen if word got out that she has a family.

Maybe.... idk.... here's hoping we learn more on this.

Shade was a teenage mom and basically alone in the galaxy.

Amara probably tried, but Shade is also really good at hunting people down and capturing them. Sort of her job.

So Shade hunted down one of the most dangerous people in the galaxy, all cuz they didn't want them to be a deadbeat?

Hot damn, hell hath no fury and then some....

Though now I have another question..... what is Amaras stance on things? Does she really care, or is it just to keep Shade off her back? And if she had to choose between family and the Void, what would she pick?

I'm excited to see where this goes! Can't wait to see more!
