I think there were lines in the code that indicated that the slaves could be freed and follow Steele and Kara towards the helipad, but it was cut (probably for logistical/narrative reasons). Their fate is left ambiguous, so the player can probably imagine it in any way they like.
I guess ambiguous is still better than "we saved the golds that are experimenting on them but enslaved (by their own creation even) and left the blameless (mostly?, they were probably captured soldiers that attacked golds) reds".
Yeah, originally there was gonna be a whole thing where you can save the red myr slaves, but it ended up getting cut out when I revised a lot of the quest right before implementation.
Was it anything worthy attention anyway or merely short text of: You saved group of poor red myr slave girls +10 to nice guy/gal/herm/dr. lash person score"?

Hmm that makes me wonder, would Dr. Lash approve of saving sex slaves? I feel that he would, yet also be disappointed in them for not stopping it from happening in the first place.
