Linux+Steam version is extremely slow to open the first time and won'

Runs fine once it actually starts until I try to close it at which point it freezes Steam. Happens on both Debian and Steam Deck. Comments on the steam forum suggest this has been a problem for at least a year.

Using the windows version+Proton it starts just fine but runs poorly.

Performance seems consistent but impassable. I don't know that it will be useful to poast what the terminal displayed during my runs, but those are consistent as well. The issue is that the problems I'm having are probably way too local, to my machine, to be useful. I can't open the Powers tab, the game freezes, and the game also freezes as I enter combat in the tutorial with those first cultists. On a previous installation, I removed my wine prefix, I couldn't get into the save screen but that's not an issue now, and I also could not get past the "special talents" page in creation, but again not an issue now.
