I find this and a number of similar threads disheartening, I find the lack of the concept of what a parent is/does is worrying
As children grow and eventually forge their own path
You take pride when they succeed, and make yourself available when they fail

Why?
Much as it was hard to find role models for my daughter, it was hard to find depictions of fathers who weren't one of the following resentful, controlling or ineffectual.
Itto over here is a single parent whose lack of support network and child care never cause him to resent Diagoro [rather he he sees him as one of last vestiges of joy]
Itto recognizes the importance of agency in your child's life
one-year-old Daigorō is given a choice by his father: a ball or a sword. The boy chooses the sword follows his father on the cursed journey for vengeance
Not saying that it would be a choice I'd like to give my kids.
