I was under the impression that Uncle Max would end up as the final BBEG.

Though I am now kinda imagining that the last dungeon would be a gauntlet of Captain Steele's older half siblings and their spawn.

Honestly, a pair of henchmen, one male and one female, would probably be one of the best ideas. This way, everybody wins! ;) As for Dane, I hope the rumors are true. Really wanna have Dane on my crew. Not only cause dude, but because I'm a sucker for "henchmen turned good" characters.

I'd hesitate to call anyone on either side of the Steele Tech inheritence race a good guy.

It's more of just "this character was once a boss but is now on your side" than anything. I just like someone who once worked for my enemy to permanently join me. Like Vivian in PM TTYD, or Zevran from Dragon Age Origins. If that makes sense.

Based on this, I'm curious if you think that there is no way for Cousin to grow as a character and/or take a level in badass and become an adequate threat by themselves? Or for them to turn towards cooperating with Captain Steele outside of the ' finding a common foe in Bigger Bad' scenario?
To grow as a character they'd really need to establish more of one. At the moment they're a one dimensional Team Rocket joke villain just waiting for a tearful breakdown confession of how jealous they are of Steele Jr.

Basically someone would need to commit to actually writing stuff for them. The way they are now could easily lead to them becoming part of the crew after a mid boss battle (or just ejected in shame for people who just want to punish them for being snooty) but something like that usually goes hand in hand with establishing the real villain. Changing joke villains into serious villains is possible but it doesn't usually work all that well and for Jack/Jill in particular it'd probs. ruin what people find cute about them.

Thanks for the answer. However, another question has grown right out of it: do you think that TiTS' main quest really needs an arc-spanning antagonist of any kind?

Probably won't be one, but Jill is due for an x-pak. In the future.

It could use more structure in general. TiTS feels more like some brat screwing their way through a vacation tour across the galaxy to find themselves before they come back home to the cushy job daddy set up for them than a real adventure. Sure, there's some excitement in the main story but there are no complications and not much in the way of stakes. Even as far as conflict goes it's more like Steele Jr. stumbles across problems other people are having and screws around in them like it's all just a game to make them look cool (ha).

The main story could def. use a turning point to bring in some stakes, a personal threat, or some way to give the impression that it's not just rich kid's holiday from there on out.

@Zevos Well given how JJ got luck to picking "competent" henchmen it wouldn't be suprise if JJ itself would turn out to be Dragon for someone else. But for now I think we only half aware that JJ may or it isn't final boss here and none save devs got clear idea what or who this final boss will be nore who dragon(s) of that boss would be.

I've said this of the main plot since day one. Usually Ted comes along and offers the rejoinder "No it's fine".

The potential of the game's scope and overall ambition is unchanged, in my opinion.

Writing things off as "well it's porn, so..." speaks of a lack of investment. This is a creative endeavor like any other

I spent like 20 minutes drafting replies to this, but fuck it.

When you go onto PornHub and click on "Huge Titted Redhead Gets Anal Slammed by 12" Dick," you don't come into that experience expecting deep and engaging plot and characters. Given a budget of {X}, that film could have spent 20 of its 30 minute runtime developing an emotional backstory to the redhead and a compelling character in the man to which that exceptionally large phallus is attached. But then you're left with 10 minutes of ass-slamming, because ultimately those actors have other shit to do that day and the director's out of payroll cash. You accept, instead, that the dick is attached to a pizza guy and the woman is desperately in need of a good ass-slamming so that you can go on with masturbating to Siri riding Ron Jeremy's wrinkly dick for half an hour.

While TiTS endeavors to be more than just a collection of sex scenes, we are ultimately responsible to people who pay us a glob of cash each month to turn out their textual wank-fuel. Hopefully between "Saendra Jumps on a Two-Foot Horsecock: Revenge of the Megadildo" appearing on their screens, people find some fun characters, stories, and mechanics to play around with -- but those are not and never will be the focus here. Most of our time is, and should be, spent on delivering the actual promise of the game. Which is waifus spearing themselves on oversized animal phalli.

To be fair, sex scenes in TiTS are already too long as it is, lol.

EDIT: Also, while mostly superior to CoC, the octane on TITS' fetish fuel is lower.

I think automatically holding porn games to lower standards is part of the problem. There's no reason something being pornographic means it needs to be as quick and dirty as the actions it inspires. The potential of the game's scope and overall ambition is unchanged, in my opinion.

Writing things off as "well it's porn, so..." speaks of a lack of investment. This is a creative endeavor like any other, even if it is erotically-inclined. There's not really a need for porn to be completely absurd or lean on parody, either (thinking more along the lines of actual erotic film here), but it does so almost universally.

Maybe it's just me, but my interest in interacting with erotic material is fairly consistent regardless of whether or not I'm looking for some stress relief. To me, a balance between narrative depth and erotic indulgence makes for a more interesting end result in comparison to something throwing up the pretenses of a plot just because it can.

I largely agree with what you're saying, but underpinning it is a sentiment you see all too often in video game critique, which is to frame a lack of depth in a particular area as "They could have put this in, but they didn't care enough/weren't as smart as me/were only interested in pandering to morons". From personal experience, in 90% of these cases the real reason was the dev wanted to release a complete video game at some point. You have to prioritise, you have to move on, otherwise you end up making wonderfully in-depth vapourware.

People come to TiTS to fap, stay for the potential waifus. In-depth, interesting plot is wasted on most of their audience, they're skimming through it all looking for things to beat it to. Which is not to say we couldn't write great stories anyway. But Fen, Savin and by extension the rest of us are enumerated to produce porn, it has to keep coming off the production line or people will stop paying for it. That's when development priorities step in.

Aaaaaaand Savin's beaten me to it.

To be fair, Analmander-senpai ninjad only one and a half of your two main arguments. Because while Savin did talk about development focus and expectations, he didn't outright stated that:
In-depth, interesting plot is wasted on most of their audience, they're skimming through it all looking for things to beat it to.
Saddest thing is: as much as I would love to dispute this claim, I don't have a significant bulk of direct evidence. And from my personal experience, I started to play both FenCo games with a strong 'porn first' mindset, it took me some time to start noticing anything else, and now and then I catch myself on reverting back into it. Still, it may be too harsh, especially since some of the plot can be effectively integrated into sexytimes and even enhance them.

That being said, why then go for adding set pieces that only hinder porn while strengthening the drama? Not just individual author's projects like your own Fasian quest, or stuff that have potential unfortunate implications like NT, but big and prominent chunks of visible setting. Like Tarkus being an absolute hellhole for two out of its three native sapient races races, or Ant People going through the checklist of war crimes and atrocities? Everything that is fun and sexy about each of those planets doesn't rely on or even interact with those things.

That's a honest question btw.

The depth of things like the Myrellion arc (as upsetting as it is), the Deck 13 quest, Bess's arc, helping Reaha through her addiction, all of Saendra, Shade and Kara, and upcoming stuff like Nonesuch's quest on Mhen'ga are all proof that porn infused with more narrative than might be expected is very well-received on the whole. And the medium of a text-based video game lends itself very well to that kind of thing, too. (But, based on what Nonesuch said, maybe everyone really does just ignore all of that completely. I want to think that's not the case, but...)
We know that the things you have listed are incredibly well received by the forum regulars, but when it comes to even the general paying player base of TiTS, the only thing we can reliably measure their interest in particular projects based on poll and their support of the game as a whole. And even bigger number of nonpaying randos we don't know anything about.

I guess. This is probably just another instance of me being overly idealistic and out of touch with the mindsets of normal people.
You like to create stories and engage with them, so you tend to view erotic/porn through that particular lense. Nothing inherently wrong with that. Plot fetish isn't the weirdest fetish out there.

How about this for henchmen ideas.
A pair of mercenaries, one male, one female with a giant logo (probably Steele Tech since it would be relevant to JJ's interests) emblazoned on their shirts. They have a hyper intelligent cat that taught itself to speak (because beastiality with dumb creatures is wrong). They would always be hunting the main character and their pik...er...probe...achoo while entering the battle from mid air with jet packs or old timey hot air balloons. Oh, and they would always say a spiel as they are entering, preferably with a sinister musical accompaniment.

Another idea would be a male mercenary that keeps his face covered with a full body armor suit or something and doesn't speak while on the job. However, there's a twist. This dastardly individual is also a buxom lady that you can meet at the bars and have sex with. For you see, this henchman makes liberal use of TFs to switch their gender back and forth. They perform jobs as a male and enjoy life as a female. They are also friendly with you when not fighting you despite their contract with your cousin because that is just work. When he's not on the job, it's the cliche I-don't-kill-if-I'm-not-paid-to thing.

If Fen would have major vote I would say another copypaste npc like his most common trophy type of npc would it be ;)
This is pretty insulting, particularly since Dane is 100% my creation.

If its a duo i hope they are pure female, everyone likes and loves hermaphrodite females but having pure females would be better. There are not many pure females after all.
I'd lean toward a female for sure, but having a dick tends to make it easier for me to write scenes for, so who knows.

@Savin Well herms do getting more spotlight than pure females (or pure males). How many times there was any promoting in blog post of any pure females in last...ummm 15-20 blog posts? And I not mean text since you also aware how many people actualy "read" blog post and not just looking over it breifly and stopping for a longer moment at pic attatched to the post.
It's almost like I've been working on a hermaphrodite character for the last 10 or 15 blog posts! But that aside, three out of the four gloryhole scenes I wrote were for non-herms. Oh, you want to go by pure art? I also featured male Rahn, a psychic mouse, a female red myr, a buff female ausar, Shekka, etc. Nonherms won in a major way. Check your facts.

I'll just say one thing. MGQ is a porn game which has one and half scene which is half-sexy to me. It is a game I'll never forget.

About the rival/cousin, JJ, I don't feel there've been any missed opportunities so far. By now their attitude is established, and they probably just need to be beaten enough times to start re-evaluating themselves for character development to take place. Characterization -> catalyst for character development -> character development. As for the PC and main plot to be frivolous, I disagree. There may not be a constant looming threat of annihilation, but that's mainly owing to two things (I think): 1st is the galactic scope, Myrellion on its own is almost a bigger deal than the entirety of CoC in terms of lives and other considerations on the verge of being lost, for example. 2nd is the understated weight of your potential inheritance. Remember the Deck 13 nice end? Probably impossible without Steele Tech bosses wanting to curry favour with the potentially soon to be boss. Myr queens giving a fuck about random no-name Rushers without the Steele name? Probably non-existent. As the main man of STech (forgot the specific title) you could do tons of more good than the champion of Ingnam, although perhaps not relatively to the scope of the setting. TiTS is scheduled to go on for much longer as well, to my knowledge, and it's not like sci-fi doesn't offer opportunities for stopping schemes to create supernovas in inhabited sectors and such, only further down the road.

And here is a problem. I don't want this support just because I'm a MC. In the best RPGs you start as nameless no-one and build your influence from nothing. And CoC done it right. And selative size is always what matters, BTW. So in CoC you start as noone and end as a world savior. In TiTS you are just a rich kid in a sandbox.

Can we at least agree that cousin JJ needs to be more involved in the storyline? I suggested this elsewhere, but it's not altogether unfeasible to have cousin dearest be directly involved in some trouble to stop us. Hiring mercenaries, riling up the locals, sending their second after you at times other than just the boss fight.... I know it'd be a pain to rewrite now that so much is already been released, but we really need an over-arching enemy of some kind. Having Jack/Jill constantly mess with you would justify pretty much everything that happens, instead of it just being stuff you stumble upon.

Also another problem, JJ cannot ever have a victory over us. If they get the code, it's an automatic game over. We're out of the race and there's nothing we can do to catch up, so we cannot ever lose. This does not raze my steaks.

Well their do add some ways for JJ to be more involved in whole game than meeting PC ingame like 4 times so far. Like those mails we can get from JJ (one I think but that still something). But then would it not be like we would get some more involvment of JJ in storyline and yet minority will be shaking heads saying: that still not enough.

@Etis Well if JJ would be succesful mastermind PC would be done around 3-4 plot planet? And then what? let try make new PC or what? Hehe maybe then we would be switching to actualy continue playing as JJ thus finding out that the real villain is...

Another thing is that, as far as I know, JJ only makes an appearance only when it directly relates to the probe (aside from that one email they send you). There have only been three probes, ergo three appearances. There are so many more side quests that have much more screen time for the individuals involved.

Not exactly. I don't understand the reason behind, but JJ seems to prefer not to leave MC behind for good.
