Is there a way to heal enemies or do less damage at higher levels?

I am trying to melt the armor off of the Syndian female without killing her, but it always ends up killing her. I've only managed to do it once without trying and I wanted to see it again because i sped through it without thinking. Any tips would be apricated.

You need to use a Crushing weapon. To minimize damage, Arc Sledgehammer probably your best bet.
