Is their any point in leveling up allies past level 5?

I'm trying to get every character's powers and perks, but I don't know if there's any after level 5.

Can anyone confirm if allies get new powers/perks, or if it's just a boost in stats?

Level 5 is the current level cap. Any experience gained after will just be stored until the level cap is raised.

There's no immediate value in it but getting the experience now means that whenever the cap gets raised, you'll be ready to level up straight away. Based on the publicly available combat mechanics doc, the plan is for the max level to eventually be 10.

Hypothetically when the level cap is increased past 5:

Companions don't gain new powers except at levels 2 and 5, but their stats (including damage, health, etc.) increase every level, and every odd-numbered level they gain a passive Perk.
