is it really possible to change your race?

My pc is a wyld elf, who decided to become a frostmander; after doing all the alchemy processes, she acquires all the characteristics of a frostmander.
and now comes the doubt, did she really become a frostmander, or deep down is she still just a wyld elf with new features?

I know that in the appearance window, is mentioned that the race is changed, but I would like to know if the essence of the character itself is changed.

For example, let's say nareva throws a curse on all frostmanders who live in savarra, would the pc be affected by this curse? even though wasn't born as a frostmander?

If the changes to your body can completely change you to the point of growing scales, and being able to generate the magical tail light, then I'd assume that everything inside changes to accommodate the outside changes. But that's without there being a CoC2 biology class so I'm guessing the appearance tab is law. And let's not even touch the philosophical or "ship of Theseus" angles, cuz hoo boy those are complicated.

My personal take on the matter is that racial transformatives (whether it's alchemy, gene mods or whatever) can completely change your biology to that of the target race, but don't have any real effect on your mental attributes (instincts, personality traits etc.) {EDIT: for the most part; see below}, so my answer to this question would be "only physically". However, since my worldview is that the only inherent differences between races are the physical ones, that answer is effectively "yes".

I mean, say what you will, but if we're bringing up mental attributes, transforming to another race can give or take away affinities in the mind-oriented attributes of Presence, Cunning, and Willpower. Whether or not this is mechanics reflecting lore, I do think it should be brought up.

True, but I view those affinities more as "this race is biased towards having high/low X" than "this race has inherently high/low X"; with the right background and/or class, it's completely possible to never put points in one, two or even all of the attributes your race has an affinity with. Also, losing/gaining an affinity through race change doesn't change what your current stats are (or your starting one, IIRC) and only really affects future level-ups, so my point still stands for the most part.

Normal transformatives are mostly physical and cosmetic. Lore-wise I imagine only the permanent transformations have an effect on your state of mind and even then the god in question might shield you from the brunt of it.
