How do saves work?

So I'm not intelligent at all in terms of technology or computers. I know it's put into file form it's treated as a downloaded file on the hard drive. But where do the saves go? Because they're not saved to the browser.

Edit: Is it like Showdown where it uses browser cookies?

The in-game save files in the download version get stored in a big blob of data in the folder that the game creates (C:\Users\[NAME]\AppData\Roaming\coc2electron) which persists regardless of what you do with any given installation of the game. This is why your saves transfer between versions, since they're not linked to the folder you install the game into.

The browser version stores saves in a big blob of data shared with a whole bunch of other stuff, located (at least for Firefox) in your Profile folder. These also persist regardless of version, but clearing your browser cache or running cleanup utilities may delete the saves.

The saves created via the Save to File option naturally go into whatever folder you tell them to go to.

I played on browser. I thought I backed up all of my files, but I recently discovered they didn't back up to the cloud.

My computer is going to be repaired, and because of my type of drive. Having it backed up would cost an absurd amount of money.

So I just wanted to know if I'd lose it if they end up replacing the hard drive. Thank you for your in depth response.
