How do I use the Image Pack?

I feel like this is a stupid question, but I'm not sure how I use the image pack.

Step 1: Download the image pack's swf file.
Step 2: Open a standalone flash player. If you don't have one, download one.
Step 3: Open the file tab in the top left corner and select "Open".
Step 4: Select "Browse", locate the .swf file, and open it.

Last image pack is v0.8.134
while current version is v0.8.145
is there a way to use the imagepack with newer versions?

That is incorrect. The last (public) image pack was 0.8.145. In the blog post, the link to the image pack is right next to "Image-embbeded version". Without essentially modding the game, no there isn't a way to transfer the images from the image pack to a standard game file.

(Silly goose, that last sentence had a double negative.)
