How do I come across enemies in this game?

When I try to explore or go to new areas, it just says there's nothing else to click ,just crossroads and stuff.

how would one do that? I click the "Explore button" when im in certain areas and nothing happens

there is a button in the bottom left corner that says explore immediate surroundings
