Have the UGC cracked FTL for individual ships like star wars, or is it more like mass effect with megastructures that fire ships FTL?

How exactly are we going from place to place in game? i had this thought when i read the initial tarkus approach for the first time and it says "As you scale down past a third of the speed of light." i mean, we can go from planets in the core to rim worlds in a matter of hours. if it is like mass effect, how would the planet rush work if there are no ship mounted FTL drives? how exactly are ships getting to "unexplored space" if there is no destination point to be fired at with the megastructure? i know this is a porn game, but wheres the lore?

they use warp gates.

Warp gates, set up by the UGC, are used to traverse the distance between star systems and clusters instantaneously. They take a long time to set up because they have to use regular FTL drives to get to where they're meant to be initially; hence the planetary rushes, which happen every few centuries when the next generation of gates are switched on.

Within the systems themselves, ships use FTL drives.

There are three main travel speeds in TiTS:
  • The slowest is using sublight drives, which typically don't exceed 1/3rd the speed of light and are used for planetary-scale travel.
  • The mid speed is using LightDrives, which go much faster - up to 90% lightspeed - and are used for interplanetary travel.
  • The fastest is the Warp Gates, which are effectively wormholes that allow near-instantaneous travel between two points in space no matter how far apart they are. They're how casual interstellar travel is possible, but in order to set up the network, the Gates themselves have to travel at sublight speeds to reach their intended destination.
The excerpt you mentioned is basically Steele switching the ship over from the LightDrive to the sublight drive.

Also, most of the time spent travelling between planets is essentially being stuck in space-traffic.

*sublight drives

There is no FTL in the game.
