Get rid of the Planetary System in the GUI to make room for larger busts

DISCLAIMER: I have no idea how time-consuming this can be.

I like games that give plenty of info, but I don't remember a single time knowing the planetary system Steele was in was relevant information; knowing the planet he/she's in is more than enough.
So, why not get rid of it to make room for larger busts? Both are pretty close in the GUI so nothing else has to be moved.

Getting larger bust would probably increase unneeded size in the memory. The bust sizes are already pretty sufficient too.

One has to remember that this is before anything else a text based game. Stuff like planetary systems and what not is part of what makes the player able to immerse him/herself in the world and it´s lore. I think it´d be more important to keep those than to increase bust sizes.

+ It would probably be time consuming. Time that can be worked on better things, like getting in more content or putting in new game mechanics.

If there was a legitimate image pack I'd have no problem with downloading a 100MB or more swf.

I think all of the pictures would need to be re-cropped too, when Fen puts the bust in the game he crops out parts. (below the waist parts)

Implying Fen doesn't automate.

Well on github there are high-res versions of all (or almost all) busts so it can be dl'd. Also for texts on busts with planet/system. THeir cover pic not taking space under it so removing any of them will not make more space for bust. Plus there is option to hide those texts leaving only bust showed in that part of the interface.

Yeah public version of github is whith all what is on public build aka free one so their not risking someone trying take use of prviate github to build illegal backer builds. And still with each new public build public github will get few new busts in both tiny size used ingame and hi-res version9s).

Just to clarify, the UI cutting off part of the bust is intentional

Why? This seems odd.

I've been thinking about this general subject for a while so I might as well post my thoughts here...

It seems silly that artists like Adjatha, Shou, and others make great busts to go in the game, but they get relegated to a small corner unless you click to change the artist (and even then, the picture is still really small and a lot of the time, the lower portion that gets cut off contains a lot of the fun parts). So in order to get the full experience of the artists’ busts, I have to pull up another browser tab to look up their artwork which breaks the mood of playing the game.

What if you click on the bust of an NPC/enemy/etc. and the picture enlarges (more than when selecting an artist) without cropping?

I understand the argument about adjusting the UI taking time away from creating actual content, but this would go a long way to increasing my enjoyment of the game. Just my $0.02

I'm pretty sure that it's somewhere on Gedan's to do list. When and if she gets to it is another story. Plus, larger images would exponentially bloat the size of the game. Which is a big issue for mobile devices.

Fen and Geddy only marginally care about mobile devices though. And rightfully so considering how much bigger the game is going to get.

It won't get anywhere near the size it would if all the images were blown up. An image pack would achieve the same result without ostensibly alienating those who are challenged by ssd space. I've run into games with image packs that are nearly 30 times the size of the game itself. I may be biased as I do have a horse in this race though.

Well, I mean, for most games the assets are going to be the biggest chunk of size.
