Probably has something to do with the new item usage memory thing, but as long as you don't click another item, you can dupe a piercing on your character by placing it somewhere else. No I don't have infinite item usage on. This is a pretty nifty way to stack lust damage against furries/scalies, or get some major dosh with the savicite rings tho.

Hopefully fixed for the next release. The piecing/cockwear items should deselect after they are used, similar to how other equipped items work. Items with sub-menus should also properly deselect after returning from their menus and the item selected has 0 quantity.
