So I have downloaded the app file on my android, now how do I get to playing it. I know I need a app that can open apk files, but where do I find something like that and what exactly do I need.

You shouldn't need an app to open .apk files. Just allow apps from third parties and you should be able to install it.
Make sure you got the correct version for your phone (ARM or x86)
