Fording river infinite defeat loop

if you try and ford the river and make it halfway, and get defeated enough you become permanently stuck, with your health at zero and the only options available are ford or explore, you can not go back, you can only try and continue ahead and get immediately attacked over and over until you end up in a permanent auto defeat loop

Edit: after hitting explore a few times i managed to find dry land and stopped getting insta defeated, however it wasn't exactly obvious that explore would have that effect

You should always be able to move back if you haven't made it over the river. If you make it over the river to South HV then yeah all you can do for the time being is try to ford back.
