I seriously don't think the Raphael in CoC2 is the same as in CoC1, despite stealing heavily from his dialogue. CoC1's was a Robin Hood-style gentleman thief (admittedly with behaviour that put him at risk of a sexual harassment lawsuit, like an early James Bond). CoC2's murderer-Raphael is much darker and feels to me like a poor imitation of CoC1's seductive scoundrel, which I think is also how Kinu sees him, albeit without knowing the original.
So it stands to reason that Taoth would also be a different character. I'm quietly expecting him to be a (mortal) noble patron of Dark-Raphael.
I gave my ideas for a possible game ending
here. Also I'm pretty sure my reply was the only one in that thread that Savin 'liked', so it gets extra red string on my conspiracy board.
It does feel like the game is being set up to have a large array of endings, what with all the options to recruit allies, forge alliances, variations for corruption and your relationship with Kas, influence over Aileh and her daughter, the Ring of Fate apparently being important in some way... I guess it'll boil down to how much the devs can bring themselves to write when the time comes. Hopefully we won't get a Mass Effect 3 ending where the choices end up feeling very limited.
Though I don't think we should worry too much about a repeat of the messy ending of CoC1. As I recall, the devs were sick of that game's spaghetti code and were eager to get the final dungeon written and the game closed off, dozens of loose story threads and all, so they could move on to the better-constructed TiTS.
