Unova. A region of the world known for its many cities, some rather unorthodox pokemon trainers, and stunning natural beauty. Unfortunately, it was also a place with its fair share of troubles. The biggest of which was a group of humans calling themselves team plasma who were going around assaulting trainers, stealing pokemon, and generally making life unpleasant for any pokemon with even a modicum of fighting ability. So it was that Bao, the Dewott, found himself being chased through Pinwheel forest by three of the garishly dressed hoodlums; two young men, and a particularly nasty girl who had decided that she wanted to rescue Bao from his life in the wild, and take him home with her. "Faster, it's getting away," she cried.

The mute Dewott prayed to any legendary it could think of: Suicune, Groudon, Zapdos, Ho-Oh, anyone and everyone, to aid him escape these lunatics! He darts to the left, sprinting as fast as he can, silently huffing and puffing. He slips through a small gap in the trees, then decides to try something. He focuses, narrowing his eyes as he draws his scalchops and lets them trail behind him, making blades of grass begin softly glowing. A Grass Knot attack. It might slow them down, it might not, but either way, he wasn't going to give up without a fight!

The sound of cursing, and tumbling bodies could be heard behind him. Sparing a glance back, Bao saw that the two men had stumbled over the grass trap and become tangled in the trees. The girl, however, simply jumped over them; her white tabard billowing up in the wind to reveal two pokeballs attached to her belt.

Bao sighs in relief. Two down, one to go. He starts running as fast as he can, really exerting himself. He didn't want to fight right now, he was beginning to get exhausted from all of this escaping! There had to be a way to throw her off, but he wasn't sure how! His other two attack moves would result in him having to charge right back at her, which wasn't a very good idea, and his last move only boosted his attack!

The human girl was getting tired as well, and so decided to hand the chase off to someone else. The tell-tale sound of a pokeball opening drew Bao's attention to his right, where a female vulpix was easily keeping pace with him. "Stop him, Cinder," cried the girl.

"Hi there, cutie," said the vulpix, before tackling Bao.

The Water-type gasps and cries out, falling and rolling with the Vulpix, before stopping them mid roll, pinning her down. He glares down, not bothering to say anything - not that he could - as he draws a scalchop, making it glow with energy before striking down with a Retaliate attack, attempting to knock her out with one hit. But regardless if he does succeed or not, he quickly gets off of her after the attack, launching into another sprint.

The shell connected with the vulpix head with a dull thud and the fire fox was left seeing stars. Just as Bao was getting to his feet, however, the sound of another pokeball opening caught his attention. He turned just in time to be slammed into by an immense grey blur. He ended up on the forest floor gasping for the air that had just been knocked from his lungs. Looking up, he saw the female human returning the vulpix to her ball. He also saw what had headbutted him; the hulking form of a purugly that was looking at him with hungry eyes. "Good girl, Clawdette. Now why don't you persuade your new boy-toy to come along quietly.

The purugly slowly stalked toward Bao, her eyes glowing with an inner green light. "Come now, sweet-heart, don't make this difficult." Despite her massive bulk, Clawdette's voice was music to Bao's ears, and he felt himself being pulled into those big beautiful eyes. [she's using hypnosis.]

Staring into those eyes, it was so tempting to reach out, to nestle into that soft fur. His foot makes contact with something however, and it catches his attention: one of his scalchops. He grunts, holding his head, shaking it, trying to fight off the hypnosis. As he does this, blades of grass begin glowing once more, except much brighter this time: Bao was lashing out, his focus going nuts.

The second Bao started to resist, the purugly lunged, only for her feet to be caught in the power of the grass knot. Suddenly, all her weight and momentum were turned against her and she was slammed into the ground with a resounding thud. She lay there for a moment before slowly and deliberately getting to her feet. "You'll suffer for that," she growled.

Dewott shook his head, clearing his mind before picking up his scalchop, turning tail and bounding away. Deciding the ground would get him caught, he leaps up into the tree branches, hopping from branch to branch, letting his momentum guide him away from the Plasma trainer. He was NOT going anywhere near that ugly brute, hypnosis or not.

"Come back, dearie, we're just getting started." The voice came from beneath him, and looking down, he saw that the purugly was easily keeping pace with him on the ground. A sudden leap brought her up into the branches with him, and she unsheathed her claws, slashing at the branch he was on. Bao leapt from the branch just before it fell out from under him. "You can't run forever, hon." She was right. Bao was getting tired, and even if her wasn't, this cat was definitely faster than him. If he didn't think of something soon, she'd eventually cut down all the branches around him.

Right, this was going no where. Bao spots a sturdy branch, and a plan comes to mind. He leaps, blue swords gathering in the air around him - Swords Dance - before he lands on the branch, but this time sideways, letting it bend as he aims himself at the Purugly. He glares, then the branch launches him at a high speed, his scalchops glowing with a lime green energy as he readies a Fury Cutter attack, baring his teeth as he barrels towards the big Normal type.

The purugly was taken back by the sudden change in direction, and even her speed wasn't enough to get her out of the way in time. Bao spun with his scallops, hitting once, twice, three times. Then, the odd angle of his attack caught up with him, and he spun past the cat. He landed daintily on his feet, but a sudden rush of air alerted him that he wasn't safe yet. Turning around, he found himself facing the purugly, her claws cocked back to slash again. He barely had time to get his shells up between him and those claws before the blow fell, and he was flying backward. His flight was cut short when he slammed into the trunk of a tree, and fore the second time that day, the air was blasted from his lungs as he slid to the ground. "Oh, you're good. Haven't had this kind of challenge in some time," she said, as she stalked toward him.

The Dewott was panting heavily now. He's exhausted his moveset, and he was low on energy. He couldn't risk a final gambit - the trainer would only find him unconscious. It felt like there was no way out of this situation. He glares defiantly at the Purugly, but he doesn't look straight in her eyes - that wouldn't be good. His ears flick, his eyes subtly roaming, trying to find something that could help him.

A low creaking behind him drew Bao's attention. the tree he had slammed into was old, and rotted. It leaned heavily toward him.

The Dewott felt his eyes widen, before a plan formed in his head. He shakily gets up, then charges another Fury Cutter, before spinning around, slashing at the rotten tree.

Against an unmoving target, the true power of fury swipes became evident. Each blow connected with the trunk of the tree with more force than the one before it, until the wood finally cracked and splintered, and with a great groan, the tree fell. Bao twirled out of the way of the falling plant, as the purugly's eyes widened and she made a mad dash away. With a tremendous crash and a howl of pain, the tree hit the forest floor, and Bao looked back to see the great cat struggling to free herself from the branches she was now tangled in.

Bao would taunt... but right now, he just couldn't be bothered. Exhausted, he stumbles away from the now trapped feline, hoping to find some bushes where he could lay low for a while, or some place he could hide in at all. This was honestly too much effort, even for him.

As he started away from his pursuers, Bao ducked into a nearby bush, only to find himself rolling down a steep hill into a deep gully. When he came to a stop, he was completely covered by the vegetation, though even more sore than he already was.

The Dewott bit his bottom lip, shakily getting up. Well, at least he was further away from those pests now. He looks around, observing his new surroundings before trudging forward. Water. A good source of water and he should be completely fine. He checks that his scalchops are still on him, smiling when he sees them attached to his kilt, before he looks ahead, ears perked and alert for sound.

As he took his first step, he realized just how muddy the ground underneath him was. Following the gully downhill, he eventually came to he edge of a small, still, lake.

The Dewott sighed and let himself fall forward, splashing into the water, feeling the plants stuck to him be lifted off. He then just slowly swims around, basking in the cool waters, looking quite content. But soon, he surfaces, sighing and floating on the surface, a small smile on his features.

As Bao floated there, his head suddenly bumped into something soft. Turning around, he saw that he had drifted into something that sort of looked like a giant blue jellybean floating in the water with him.

He looks, then swims back, looking wary. He did not want to fight at all right now. He would just silently apologise and move on. He was feeling much better now anyway, now that he was in his element.

As Bao pushed off the strange object, it stirred to life and uncurled itself, revealing the stout squishy form of a quagsire. The big water-type yawned, its cavernous mouth opening wide enough that Bao was pretty sure the thing could swallow him whole. It blinked its beady eyes a few times before noticing Bao and smiled. "Oh, hello. Newcomer, eh? Well, when you're in my lake, you're always welcome to help yourself," he said, holding out his arms.

At first, Bao was ready to apologise. But he suddenly offered a... hug? At least, he thought it was. He shrugged, before giving an innocent smile, swimming closer before doing his best to wrap his arms around the Water/Ground type.

"Well, aren't you an affectionate little thing," the big amphibian said, returning the hug. "Hmm, don't see many dewotts around these parts. What brings you out here?"

The Dewott frowns, then silently emulates making noise before waving his paws negatively, trying to convey that he couldn't speak.

The Dewott nodded, looking relieved that he didn't have to embarrass himself in front of the Quagsire. He then frowns softly, pondering how he could express his reason for being here.
