Warrior should get a choice between armor and shield (even though a wicker shield drops later) Maybe an axe or short spear or sword that's maybe a bit better in one way than sword/knife the innkeeper gives you. But worse in another (ie well balanced but old sword. it's seen years and years of practice and is notched and worn. Frankly it could use new grips and maybe some time in the blacksmith's to return it to pristine form. You could have gotten better, but this sword is yours and carried you through a few battles and was your father's before you took it up yourself. / chance of breaking against heavy armor or scales... then it's tears and hope you live to pick up the pieces and can find a decent blacksmith)
Or Lucky helmet It ain't fancy, but it stopped a barbarian's axe. Sure it's got a dent, but that shows you've seen action (or are a cheap bastard.) It may be uncomfortable, but you're now used to fighting with it on more than with out it. Thankfully the padding and fur lining you got keep it from freezing to your head in the cold cold northern climate)
etc
Choose hunter and maybe you get a Short Bow, or a sling, something you can hunt with in wilderness to get food or resources you can work or eat or sell.
Maybe a tent to let you rest near anywhere.
A fire starter that works even when the wind and snow are blowing...
A courtesan could get perfume, a make up kit (so many uses) or birth control pills...
Thief? Lock picks... a poison to paralyze your target (sneak attack required?) or a bleeding poison (they take a few rounds of bleed dmg?)
Mage a staff both a weapon and focus...but it marks you as an apprentice...it needs upgraded or worked to better help you with magic. But if you make it better for magic, it will be weaker as a melee weapon except on the defense...
Cantrips for convenience? Start fire. Warmth. Clean (oh so important - especially for personal hygiene after sex if you don't want a trail of cum everywhere following your footsteps.
Simple things that any adventurer would have... a blanket, food, bandages...(because if you roll badly on damage or actions in initial part of the intro, you're going into each subsequent battle injured. And if your healer kitty goes down...well the odds get worse. This would help prevent min maxing archetypes to ensure that you can win your first three battles.
Loot bodies... it's a matter of tradition...and here in the north, survival... even bloodied or burned armor and clothing has a use...to someone. A few EP in trade or if you have the skills you can borrow a facility and maybe upgrade your own gear from salvaged parts of what you looted?
(That chainmail hauberk the cultist was wearing under his robes is more rust than solid chain...but you can salvage a few sections...maybe with a few more you can remake a hauberk or use the metal bits to upgrade your armor... /warrior -> black smith in town, or courtesean -> cloth/armor bits make sexy armor at seamstress... more sexy than protective, but it does have an effect you can maximize with the right wiggle or hip twitch...maybe an armored bra...those orcs are rumored to reach for tits, especially big ones in combat for fun and to throw off their opponents...if they were paying customers, that'd be one things, but they want freebies/to rape you. So maybe that might be a good idea...
Mage? your robes are worn, and chilly...maybe adding a few layers of patches from those salvaged robes would keep you warmer and add some padding to help you versus blunt weapons and fists... etc etc)
track items w/ salvage-Armor bits or Cloth sections or leather bits...
if they had weapons option to take them...might not be better and cheap, but they did hurt you with them. Perhaps you can return the favor?
so in effect as you chose your character's creation you get enough to show and use w/your career and focus skills? Bare bare minimum... cause even a courtesan prostitute is gonna want a cloak or blanket to use against the weather and elements. A street rat would have items to use to ensure escape or survival... etc...
any other suggestions? It should be simple stuff and the blurbs above would be text popup tags to explain what and why you have that gear...
If this is in wrong area- please move it to right one. /The Dwarf
