Doing Undermountain / Khor'Minos in Act 1

I'm doing a dark difficulty playthrough and as an experiment before doing the Winter Palace I went to fight the minotaur guards in the foothills. To my surprise I got through them without all that much trouble, but now that I've explored the majority of Undermountain and a few other areas, I'm wondering if there's actually any real point to this or whether I'm just needlessly overlevelling. Are there any benefits to an Act 1 Khor'Minos visit at all such as easter eggs or interactions that I would miss?

Also as a side note I wonder if an even harder difficulty interests anyone or is on the cards development wise? I know min-maxing is not encouraged and the game isn't necessarily about the combat, but I'm surprised at how much I enjoy it, though I find that even when trying to not overlevel I can auto my way through a good portion of the fights. With all the skills that are available there's a good amount of build variety to play with. Maybe dark difficulty should be a little bit tougher?

PS: My build: Lvl 7 Black Mage, STR/AGI/WILL, Skills: Charge Weapon, Soul Arrow, Cleave, Smite Evil, Unbreakable. Companions are Witch Cait and pretty much anyone else that can tank, but I normally use Atugia/Arona. Items are just whatever gives the most spellpower, but Senninbari got me through the minotaurs and I've stuck with the Blade Staff the whole game because I like spears/glaives. I don't feel it's particularly optimised but being a glass cannon I guess fights end quite fast.

edit: Also please let me know if I'm being a huge idiot and this is the intended order of progress. I got the feeling the minotaur guards were meant to be a bit of a wall to prevent access before you finished the rest of the Winter Palace stuff, but apologies if that's not the case!

Another note, sorry for rambling. I made a post already regarding this in gripes, but using the pale ale item to max toughness was another thing that got me through the minotaurs (forgot to mention it in the main post). I've avoided using the stat buffs for other reasons, but being able to go from squishy mage to absolute wall with one beer felt perhaps a little strong? I'll refrain from using them from now on, but I feel even as little as a +2/4 to party stats would be enough to justify using it.
