Does changing class/race affect stat gains?

I lost my save data recently due to some computer trouble and I'm starting fresh, only this time I'm going to actually understand how the game works so I can set up my character properly.

As I understand it, your stat gains on level are determined by your preferred stats. Your class, race and background all give +1 to 3 attributes. When you level up, you can boost 3 stats. You can only boost stats that you have as preferred and a stat will go up by how many preferred points you have in it, to a max of 2 (so even if your race, class and background have the same attribute, it'll still only go up by 2).

Obviously, you can't change your background. But you CAN change your race and class. Does changing your race or class influence your preferred stats, and thus change your level gains? If so, does that work retroactively or and I mix it up as I level to get weird stat totals? Am I misunderstanding anything?

Yes. No, it does not work retroactively. If you have problems with your distribution, just retrain at any class trainer.

Alright so it works for Class. Does it also work for race? I imagine not since that would mean needing a set up a new stat array for any transformable race, not to mention figuring out how it'd work for mixes

"Mixes" just give Chimera stats. But every race does have an array

Huh, I'll admit that's further then I expected things to go. Is there a compilation of racial stat bonuses anywhere? I found what appeared to be a very early version on the wiki but it only covered starting races.
