Speaking of classes and class bonuses on ships, I do wonder what the ever rumored psyker class would get. As I can't really think of much that they could end up getting as the more mundane classes just have much more logical options.
FTL comes to mind, where the slug psychics have the ability to have view of the enemy's ship interiors and have the nonstandard ability to cause mechanical failures.

Though I should probably stop thinking of importing mechanics from other games...

There is no shame in copying a good mechanic from another game just as long as you do not fall into the same problems the original developers did.

BUt clearly, the most important feature of the upgraded ships will be that you can finally get yourself a luxurious sleeping cabin with an Emperor sized bed, and a bathroom with all the shiny bits and bobs that Steele and his/her/its lovers deserve

It's more of a writing thing that I lament, and it's maybe because the Tech Specialist is hard to pin down. Is it a hacker, a tinkerer... What exactly does the Tech Specialist do? Smuggler is easier, you are NotHanSolo. And maybe that is my main gripe with the Tech Specialist.

Then there is the fact that tinkering is done by the NPCs.

The ships can be used as a tool to explain what a Tech Specialist does.

Techs are Engineers/Technicians if you want what they are in a nutshell.

Should be Shekka and Nerassa respectively.

Oh I guess I must have been playing an older version that didn't have them yet, since the first time I visited them they lacked the backpacks, but this time I got them.

Know who the seller on Myrellion is?

I'm mostly concerned with the following.

A.) At this point I'm kinda even doubting it'll ever come out. With so little core content being actually released (let alone content being actively revamped in anticipation of compatibility for the update) and so much of what is getting released just being fluff extra transforms and user-created scenes/characters as well as with how it feels like we've been talking "SPACESHIP UPDATE!!!1" in serious tones for at least a year now this is starting to feel like so many other Patreon games where they promise the world and then never fully deliver or just suddenly fall apart and never deliver as a whole.

B.) I'm afraid if it does finally come out I'm suddenly going to be hit with like a dozen "This person doesn't fit on your ship and has gone "home" messages, which won't be even remotely fun or amusing. Yet this is just one of the many problems that has to be dealt with due to allowing more crew members now than slots that we'll ultimately have available.

C.) Something I touched on earlier and others have already touched on, scene compatibility. Will I still fly into and dock in Glastigoth on my giant-arse capital vessel? Will things still be cramped on my luxury cruiser? That sorta thing. I see a lot of scene re-writing for optimal implementation, yet, realistically, I see things more likely being just implemented as quickly and vaguely as possible to get it in so we can start back on more transformatives and random never-to-be-updated-again characters that'll still be calling you some derogatory term and acting like they're tough poop despite the fact you tower over them and are essentially a half ton wall of pure and unadulterated rage and muscle. Oh, yeah. REAL intimidated by this little seven or eight foot dood when I'm over a story tall.. oh, no, wait.. I somehow am and I'm forced to act subby and swoony every time I'm around this specific person. Kay. Also.. so maybe this last bit of this point is unrelated to scene compatibility and ships and just a little rant. Sorry.

D.) That at release I'm afriad that even if I have enough money for the ships I want I won't be able to get a ship large enough for the entire crew I already have aboard the space-wannabango so they'll still just be sent out to the edges of the nowhere until further updates.

E.) Ship storage. I'm running out of it so will this upgrade? Will storages carry over from ship to ship or will I have to meticulously pack everything I want to bring over into my pack and leave what I can't fit behind?

G.) Speaking of characters that never get updated, I'm concerned Hand So never will, either. I pretty much want to plug her into all my ships with this update. I'm less concerned, admittedly, about this as it feels like something that's just sort of "meant" to go with the ship update and it ultimately will if the update actually happens, yet I could be misreading things and be totally off about that.

Those are my main speculative fears for the whole ship thing. None of them can really be said one way or another with any true certainty and are just "time will tell" sorta things. While intentions can, have been, and will be stated I'm a bit too burnt out on unfulfilled promises from other things and too concerned with the lack of focus on core game content to willfully believe in something before it actually happens. No complaints, really, just thoughts, concerns, and speculation based on what I've seen and experienced thus far.

I think Slab Bulkhead's Blue Nebula is a good example of what a max end ship will be capable of. It's pretty much Voyager Jr., and can hold all of our shit while still being resnobly compatible with generic scenes.

Honestly can't wait for some new ships and the possible new designs. Be interesting to see some crazy spaceships in game and I'm guessing that almost everyone has their own design that they hope to see in game.

Oh I wouldn't worry about that we're supposed to be able to get a capital ship at some point though it would probably be expensive as hell unless they made it be a quest reward. Also I heard tell of a debug ship that could hold everyone that would maybe be unlocked via cheat code or something.

I heard something about a storage container on Tavros that everything gets put in when you change ships. You can take stuff out it but not put stuff in. Or maybe everything automatically gets transferred to your new ship and any excess items that won't fit in your other ship get put in said container. I don't remember exactly.

It would honestly make the most sense to just transfer everything when you buy a new ship. After all, there's bound to be some kind of moving crew that do "put all of this guys stuff into the new ship" type of things.

If it were going to be like that, the ship would have to be a lot bigger than the Casstech is described as, which takes away from the idea that the player is starting from the bottom. Captain Steele is already part of the 1% in tons of highly visible ways even before taking into account narrative privileges from being the protagonist, but I think the idea was to experience at least most of what it's like to slum it. There's some competing narrative logic going on there, but a bigger starting ship would swing things more in the direction of "rich kid joyriding around the galaxy" and away from "intrepid space adventurer on a quest for fame and fortune".
That ship, whatever size it was, sailed a long time ago.

Any notion of it not being a rich kid's joyride is more of an in-game roleplaying fantasy.

I do hope the combat moves a bit faster than it did in the Silence, though.

Well, from the player's perspective it is a rich kid's long joyride roleplaying as an erotic action-adventure fantasy, since you can't fail unless you really screw up. From the PC's perspective, it is a quest to prove your eccentric multibillionaire Dad you are worth of succeeding him by slumming for a good while as an intrepid space adventurer on a quest for (more) fame and fortune, since the potential risk of the Cousin cheating the PC out of their inheritance is real, and so is the possibility of getting killed, incapacitated, trapped into sexual slavery, etc. along the way.

Best way to work around that would be to grandfather in any over capacity crew. So, if ship updates come, you can't expand your crew, but nobody is kicked out of the sardine can.

I'm glad that I'm not the only with a hoarding problem. I can't bear to get rid of that bow Tanis gave me...

Nonesuch is still interested in Hand So. As long as he stays away from JimT's cursed brain babies, I think she'll see the light of day.

That's reasonable. Dominika ending, the Followers of the Fetish church, camp site improvements... helspawn incest... didn't end up making into CoC, falling to the way side. Shoot, I still remember being hyped for the Rachni in Mass Effect. Pfft, might as well have burned in the lab.

The notion that you're at all slumming it or starting from zero and making your fortune is pure fantasy from the PC's perspective, too. If you were slumming it you wouldn't have your own docking bay, nursery center, huge payouts for finding each probe, a support network of future employees and so on. It's so obviously a little rich kid game where you're rewarded handsomely at each juncture for playing it and shielded from all but the worst possible consequences.

If Steele Jr. were to try and pitch the notion that they're slumming it because daddy only bought them a used car to go joyriding around the galaxy in they'd get slapped by any of the characters who're actually risking debt slavery to pay their own way.

Slumming it is a relative term. It would be slumming it for Steele to boot out the richest man on our Earth and live in their place.

Soooooo……….. Any news on this whole part of the game? I'm incompetent to find any news on my own, so i'm asking here.
From the points in the opening it looks like a lot of work and ambitious and integral part of the game seeing as we are in space and spaceships are kind of part of the while shabang.
One would think there would be more discussion about it than just 2 pages, or more likely i missed a post. But yeah any progres? Even if its small or slow, i'm curious.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Its going to be a while.
Gedan is coding the combat and the ships, but they're currently dealing with real life issues, which I'm sure we can agree, take precedence.

Yeah for sure real life issues take precedence no argument there. And i wish them all the best in resolving those.
But the size of the content kind of made me think this was a 2 man job not a 1 man job. Kuddos to Gedan for doing it solo.

There are very few coders at all for the game, so I think it's more of a necessity thing
