But renaming them simply "Shield" and "Drone" would do nothing good, since you could NOT choose the initial drone perk and still have most of your perks from the "drone-branch" and vice versa. It would make a lot less sense.

You're still picking drone perks from the Drone specialization, though, regardless of whether you deviate or not.

For example, if I picked a Ranged perk for the Mercenary, but then suddenly picked a Melee perk for whatever reason, it wouldn't change the fact that those perks came from the Ranged and Melee specializations, respectively.

You're talking about hybridizing. It's up to the player whether they want to strictly follow a tree or not.

But most of these "drone perks" you speak of have nothing to do with drones. Naming the specialization "drone specialization" would be stupid IMO.

Mercenary is a different cup of tea, because MOST of the perks from the "ranged specialization" actually have an impact on ranged combat, or include abilities that are ranged.

That's the point I'm trying to make, though less harsh. You've probably misread somewhere; maybe not; but if you go onto the wiki and look at the specializations for Techies, they're currently Offensive and Defensive. Jacques wants to change it to Drone and Shield specialization because that's their supposed specializations, or themes if I really want to be honest. That's according to forum consensus and even Savin himself, if I understood him correctly.

In that case I must have misread, or more likely overread something. Sorry for being "harsh". I did not have the impression that Jaques actually wanted to change it to Drone and Shield, just that it was going to be changed to whatever. However I am gonna crawl back into my basket and shut up about this, hoping not to embarrass my reading abilities further.

I'm only saying your statement was harsh because of the "stupid" part, but you're still right; short of the initial perk, the rest have absolutely nothing to do with drones, something I'm sure choir's been singing. Truth be told, the Shield theme barely it makes on account it has three perks on its side that references shields, and even then, one of those perks are just choices on how to regenerate your shields.

On a side note, I just noticed the Heavy Weapons and Low-Tech Solutions are on the wrong perk trees. Whether that's because how the game has it or a wiki error, I don't know, but thought I should just put that out there.

Basically, the first perk is only one which defines a gameplay. If you want to win by max damage you take drones, if you want to overlast you take shields. Other perks doesn't really change anything. They either flavored versions of each other or a choice between melee and ranged focus.

Do keep in mind, I'm talking about the themes of the perk trees and how perks fit that theme, not its take on gameplay.

And that is exactly the problem. There is no tree. Only the first perk has a theme.

And I'm trying to find the reason behind why that is, exactly. Something I'll have to ask Fenoxo, according to Savin, but I really don't want to PM or summon him if this is a touchy subject.

I'm also still firmly in the "Offensive and Defensive" camp, but again, just me.

I think orginal idea behind specializations was lost over course of game development. Since if we stick to that specialization then only time PC would pick perk would be lvl 2 and then on each next lvl up he would get perk from chosen perk tree. Now we can choose one fromtwp possible. And in case of Merc or Smug those perks from left or right column got quite good synergy wth each other so it's more efficient to stick to one of those columns on each lvl up. As for techs...actualy I not think none orf them got great synergy with either drone or shield perk. Well eventualy only somehow helping PC that took sheild perk since I not able to find which on lvl 3-8 perks that PC can pick would synergy with drone perk at all.

(My personal favorite :toot:) Why is it, despite advertised as being the most intelligent class, Tech Specialists aren't smart enough to Take Cover?

  • They have shields to cower behind, you filthy peasant.

LMFAO BEST FUCKING ANSWER! God damn it Savin you gave me the best laugh today thus far.

Alright, updated OP.

You know, it doesn't just have to be me asking questions. If you have any questions about TiTs that would derail another thread or would just be too much to make a new thread for, feel free to ask and hope people answer.

First off, this is courtesy of Galgano, who raised a legitimate point. Time to be specify on an earlier question: Was the Tech class the first to be designed or implemented?

No idea. They were all developed very close to one another, so I don't think it really matters.

CoC didn't have classes, as far as I can remember. If that changed, forgive my ignorance, but this question would still be legitimate question: Why did TiTs go the route of classes?

To be more advanced than CoC, I assume. Personally I prefer sphere grid systems, but that's just me.

Celise. From what I've seen, despite her bimbo-like nature, she seems pretty damn OP if you look at her stats. Is that for all Galotians, or is she just a special case?

Galotians are difficult to physically harm, but Celise's invulnerability is hyped by being the tutorial boss.

Psionics. They seem to be the mental powers of this game. Is it just typical psychic power, or does TiTs has its own type of flavor in it?

Typical psychic power. You usually need a psi-amp to serve as a focusing device to use them even if you have the talent.

Apparently, having followers in combat outside quests is a no-go. Is this for writer sanity or is it some different reason I can't think of?

Writer sanity.

Mega-Corporations have a lot of power in this game, if I'm correct. Do they, perhaps, secretly fight each other over some valuable resource, or are they so specialized in what they do, there's no point in fighting each other?

Some are competitors with others for market share. There's no miracle metal they're all after or anything like that.

Would NEXT-like, humanoid-sized robots fit well in this game, considering corporate dystopia?

There are humanoid robots in the game such as Gianna and Bess. Old combat robots have been seen in Deck 13. Stronger ones presumably exist, but they're more likely to be Star Wars-esque battle droids than giant robots. The largest machine we've seen is the power loader used in the Stellar Tether.

Am I annoying anyone?

Some of these questions are a bit spurious.

Four of my last five icons have been from Super Robot Wars, so obviously I'm a big fan of the genre. That said, it's hard to insert into a game made more for human-scale combat without having it in mind, like the Xenomyth games.

That said, I can picture getting a cool boss battle out of climbing up a Colossus.

Actually, I've always pictured Deconstruction Unit as being bigger&badder
I mean, Steele can do everything else, why can't they just pilot a mech of their own? That could enable more traditional ground-style combat in spaaaace! You could get a big enough ship for a mech hangar, and if you get attacked you just suit up and go get 'em! :D

...

I know I'm reaching here. I just like giant robutts. :p

Thanks for the Gurren Lagann flashbacks, Misty.:p
Nothing better suited to punching the Space Cthulhu, I guess.
...
Great, now those became Demonbane flashbacks:confused:

Great fucking visual novel!

this talking about mecha reminds me a lot of Xenogears and Xenosaga.

The fact you guys know what an AC is makes me happy, not gonna lie. That being said, they don't have to actually be giant.

I'm thinking along the lines of, you know, Nineball. Except 8-to-10 feet tall.
