it seems crossing into the harshest weather zone causes this crash (this has occurred on multiple occasions)

There should be a hotfix 'soon', but you can prevent it by negating the cold damage (50+ Freezing Resist, Heat Belt, etc.). Remember that each Lucinite in your inventory decreases Freezing Resist by 10%.
