Companion Stats

So, I was taking a look at the stats on the companion characters and noticed that they seem to have overall higher base stats by a total of 4. I was wondering why that seems to be the case, is it their gear or something? As it stand right now it feels slight bad to always be behind them.

If this is something that's already being looked at, my apologies, but I couldn't seem to find anything on the topic. It's certainly not the end of the world if it doesn't get changed, but it'd certainly be nice to be keeping pace with them evenly.

Examples:
At level 4 PC has a total of 51 points while Cait and Brint have 55
At level 1 PC has a total of 15 points, Cait has 19

Companions are given a slight stat boost to make up for the fact that their gear sets are static and you can't mix and match them. That, and their affinities are set in stone.

I would guess there are 2 reasons for this:

1. I'm fairly sure your companions armor don't change from the start of the game which means whatever equipment stats they have aren't very good. The save editor doesn't give the specific armor stats displayed in-game, but it does show that each companion has their own unique weapons and armor which carries through each level. Unless the developers allow you to change their weapons and armor, they are stuck with the same crappy supplies they have as soon as you meet them. Their higher stats likely balance it out so they are either on-par with the player's stats or slightly below (assuming the player equips better equipment as they level up).

2. Their skills cannot be changed meaning they are stuck with standard builds. (Presumably) Brint will never be able to cast fire and Cait will never be able to wield giant two-handed axes. The champion can start off as a prostitute, yet learn how to group heal, cast dark magic, and slink in the shadows -- all in the same build. It creates a lot more room for creative strategies meaning the champion will always be more of a powerhouse, even with lower stats.
Edit: Nevermind

Ah, I suppose that's fair, though it still seems odd that the companions should need to 'keep up' by being ahead in the first place to me, given that the PC seems intended to be powerful? (Cait herself even implies she's not very powerful when you first meet her.) But anyway, not really all that important and at the end of the day that's y'all's decision to make, just thought I would mention that it feels a bit off to me, best of luck.

You are already miles ahead because of your ability to equip better gear and your flexibility. Look at your derived stats.

The sum of the parts is greater than the whole, looking only at one detail is quite myopic.

I can already see that I'm more powerful than my allies. I never argued otherwise, all I said was that it seems strange to me that my base stats are lower than theirs, but I can see that feedback's not really welcome. Anyway, take care.
