New Another factor that you're not considering is that the achievements allow them to track player choices in a way they can't do with other versions. It's one more metric they can use for... anything they think it's worth applying 'what our players do' to, really.
Idk... sorry if any of this is rude of me to say, but personally, i dont really like that line of thought for development. At least not for something like this game. The reason being is that im kinda paranoid that some stuff may get left on the wayside. Remember the tower thing in Tel'Ader (idk if im spelling that right, its been a while, lol) in CoC1? With like some plant chick or whatever? She had maybe like 5 bits of conversation and that was it. Im also afraid it may lead to content kinda stagnating and things not branching out into more unique stuff. Idk, maybe im just being a paranoid spaz, but i just cant help be a bit hesitant to say the least.
Whatever attention it gets from Steam, that's more than it'd get without Steam. I, and presumably many others, only discovered Fen's games by accident, so having those games in multiple locations (especially well-known ones) makes it more likely for people to find them that way.
Fair enough. I too am in the "accidental discovery club", so i totally get what you mean.
CoC, probably not; they'd have to port it to a non-Flash system first, and there's no indication they're going to do that. TiTS, the devs have officially stated "we don't know", but if they decide "yes" it'll still have to wait until the JS port is finished.
Damn. Honestly, its kinda a shame how CoC1 has been kinda thrown by the wayside. Dont get me wrong, i understand why its being done, but still.
Sure, if you don't want to get any of the advantages that come with the Steam version. Or any access to continuing backer builds and other content after gaming the system for a one-off payment..
Yeah, i see what you mean. Plus its less of a hassel, too. Patreon should really add some kinda tip jar system, kinda like what Ko-Fi has. Make it so us poorer scrubs can throw pennies instead of dollars, lol.
Because they decided that was a fair price for a one-off subscription for an early-access game?
Yeah, id say 10 bucks is pretty reasonable. Hell, now that i think aboit it, its a pretty damn good deal all things considered. Im pretty tempted to get it myself so i can stay on top of the updates, and i havenet even played a single minute of CoC2, lol!
A couple other points to note:
-Patreon is somewhat ambivalent to adult-oriented content. They're writing up more rules, enforcement is highly inconsistent, and that hammer could come down at any time with little to no warning. Diversifying now makes it less likely the game will be cancelled due to lack of funding. I've seen it happen, and don't want a repeat.
-Cloud saves. I've lost my file more than once, and it's harder to rebuild every time, both because I get tired of re-treading ground, and because the amount of content is constantly increasing and getting denser. It's a lot easier to enjoy new content when you've already cleared most of what's already out there.
So yeah, there are a lot of pros to putting the game on Steam (and I'll add there are more adult titles on the platform than you might realize), and they tend to outweigh any potential drawbacks.
All good points. And about that patreon bit, honestly i wouldnt be surprised in the slighrest if within a year things got so bad that Fen and Co just decided to jump ship from there altogether. And i hope this isnt rude of me to say, but a part of me kinda wishes for that after the bs that went down with Nykke and the Wyrmlings. Dont get me wrong, i get why the devs did it, and i dont blame or knock them at all for it, but it still chaps my ass that they had to get put into that position and be forced to do it in the first place.
And its not like this is the only big name porn game on the store, Subverse for instance entered into early access recently and got alot of attention.
Oh shit, right, i forgot about that! Damn. Well, heres hoping CoC2 gets the same kinda spotlight!
