So I just finished the Winter City arc and after Kassy opened her portal to warp whistle her minions to her location then suddenly we danced together to hold back some eldrich abomination that came threw instead and after that I was like, "WTF happened over there!?!?"

Additional point, there were originally plans to import save data from the original CoC which meant that the 'canon' ending was whatever you happened to get and that it would affect a few things here or there. In the absence of a save it simply defaults to the most inclusive option for content, which happens to be how everyones game is likely to work now since Flash is going away, meaning there's not much reason to support the carryover idea. Savin has also mentioned this on occasion when people have asked about it. Here's what the public design doc has to say about that.
Players who don't import a save from CoC1 will be treated to the "default" world state: a Tainted futa champion eventually purified Lethice, and did all the quests so that the demons lost, but didn't kill any of them . Marae is alive and well, since the Factory was Destroyed . Taoth was rescued from Urta's balls.

So barring some writing changes between then and now in what constitutes the 'default' end state or a decision to go ahead with the importing idea anyways despite the limited utility of it, that can probably be thought of as the canon ending of CoC1 for CoC2 purposes.

No, that thing's a Wraith. The wraiths are the beings that poured through a crack in the universe that got opened up by the mages of Estelore centuries ago; they were the enemies of Savarran civilization during the Godswar. They're not quite the same thing as a Marethian demon, although they both are corruptive in somewhat different ways.
You can find out a lot more about wraiths from the goddess Nareva during the Convocation of Mirrors.
