Attribute increasing methods

Is it possible to permanently increase attributes besides leveling up? If not are there plans of implementing something like this in the future?

The reason why I'm asking is because TiTs and CoC1 both have that mechanism and I wondered if CoC2 would also share that feature. And if there aren't any plans of implementing such features could you explain why.

There certainly won't be a way to do so continually without exploits/cheats. I would guess that there may be a quest reward or two that permanently increases one stat by one point.

CoC1 and TiTS have a stat system that allows both growth and decay. Some scenes will increase your stats and some will decrease them; assuming you play normally and don't min/max stats, this balances out fairly well so the player isn't overpowered.

CoC2 has a more classic RPG stat system where stats don't grow or decay. It allows the devs to make the difficulty more streamlined where all players will have the same number of stats at any given level. They won't have to keep in mind that some players will be weaker than others simply because they didn't grind a certain event, or lost to an enemy over and over. Personally, I found that situation could be annoying in CoC1 (not so much TiTS), where I would face that damned tentacle monster and every time I lost it would steal 5-6 stat points putting me in a perpetual loop of losing stats that I needed to reliably beat enemies at low levels.

The other thing is that one stat point in CoC2 has magnitudes more value than one stat point in CoC1 and TiTS. The difference in power when the champion levels up is jarring. Facing the marked men at level 1 is quite difficult, but at level 2 it's substantially less so. The difference between level 1 and 2 is 1-2 stat points in each category. Having the ability to increase all stats to max each level would completely destroy the balance. There can't be decay in CoC2 because losing fights would carry far too great a penalty and many fights would be virtually impossible if you lost too many stats.

Tl:dr - Currently the game is balanced with the stats it gives you. Adding on to that would make it too easy.

No. You will never be able to permanently increase your base stats outside of leveling.

Generally speaking, don't use the previous games as any kind of yardstick by which to create expectations for this one. The design teams are different, the design philosophy is different, and the systems and mechanics are largely incongruous.

And if there aren't any plans of implementing such features could you explain why.

1. For the same reason we force everyone's attributes up by one on each level up: to create a band in each level in which we can reasonably expect a player's stats to be. This makes balancing easier as we don't need to balance an encounter for someone having maxed out everything, and someone having just what comes with level-ups.

2. Mindless grinding is not fun or engaging. Spamming 1 to talk to Syri about books, or grinding over and over again at the Ten Ton Gym is not engaging gameplay in our opinion. NPCs are not engaged because players enjoy their content, but because they serve as stat trainers. Grinding is present in the game for those who like it, but the rewards are all cosmetic.

3. We want players to make intelligent decisions about stat builds to complement their powers, classes and companions, not to pump everything to maximum and destroy any meaningful choices about one's build.

I'll convince Savin to make only one stat that can change/be tweaked.

Gayness.
