When challenging Dominant Arona to a duel by refusing the Rite of Conquest quest, I was able to go to the Menu button, which took me out of combat. Despite that, the game treated it as though I'd been in combat the entire time and rendered me unable to summon my Flame Spirit and also had cooldowns still in progress on certain abilities.
