Something like Glacial Guard Ryn, A champ using ice powers, and maybe Frostheart Cait? Would this be a decent party? Ryn has self heal on a recharge, which could supplement Caits (admittedly not great) healing from sap warmth. Ryn applies lots of debuffs and frigid, which Frostheart really likes. What sort of powers would the champion want here? Maybe Lunar aegis? Ray of frost? Cone of cold?

You're probably gonna need to make your PC the healer for this to work. You've got GG Etheryn or Winter Knight Brint for tanks, Outrider Ryn for DPS and Frostheart Cait for... something. But like you said, Sap Warmth heals are not gonna keep the party alive.

You could make your PC a Black/White Mage with Heal and then ice spells.

The hope was that frozen threat combined with sap warmth might be enough to keep Ryn alive, though cleaves would be a major problem without an actual healer.

Yeah, dark difficulty without a healer is probably not the wisest decision. Its doable enough without a proper tank (or at least it was up until act 3, haven't really messed around with many party compositions since the end of the siege) but healers are kinda necessary

No tank in act 3 can work depending on the fight, but it's gonna be a huge pain in the ass. Most non-tank companions aren't built to withstand getting hit more than 2, maaaybe 3 times in a round.

Then you come across enemies with tankbusters and suddenly your full health Cait vanishes into a fine pink mist.

Tbf with enough offense, most non tank companions (in act 2 anyway) weren't able to be hit more than twice a round, as with high initiative, you coukd kill a couple of enemies before they even got a turn off. (Especially since you coukd trigger charge weapon twice at the start of each fight, which did a pretty decent chunk of holy damage for free) but I definitely remember that the alpha strike party was falling off towards the end of the act. The faceless blade fights were rough
