The Steam version has the same content as the free version, not the backer version. So it updates roughly every month. The upside of the Steam version is that it has cloud saves.
The advantages to the version you buy on Steam is that it updates automatically (roughly each month) instead of having to do it manually and it comes with steam achievements.
So its more a way of supporting the development of the game by buying it and for people that like to have their games on Steam, rather than coming with paid-exclusive content.

There's also achievements, and I hear there's going to be trading cards implemented sometime in the future. I also hear there's a way to get the backer version on Steam if you're also backing it conventionally.
Then may I ask how much content the patreon backer version has over the the free version? Don't want specifics, or spoilers, just want to know continuations of existing quests like the main quest (In her footsteps) and companion quests continuation, I'm actually fully interested in the Minotaur city with Brint, Quint and Kiyoko's story.
The backer version is never more than a month ahead of the pubbie patch, all content is announced on the backer patch notes. The newest backer patch becomes the pubbie patch on roughly the 15th of every month.
