A Problem of Leadership

Hello, I've been playing a Summon focused Black Mage for a while, and while exploring the shops in the Undermountain looking for new gear I noticed something very wrong with my party; they are not receiving the expected bonus from my Leadership.

I have a natural leadership of 38, and with the Helm of Heroes it's 48, and the in game codex and the wiki state that:

Leadership: Increases the efficacy of your companions. All companions gain a bonus to their Attack Power and Spellpower equal to your Leadership. Summoned creatures use your Leadership to determine how powerful they are.

The language used suggests that, for characters in my party, their Attack Power and Spellpower should be equal to their existing stat (starting at three times their Strength or Willpower) plus my Leadership. It then follows that equipping or removing the Helm of Heroes should lower those stats by 10 in step with my Leadership. Having tested this with all available companions in my save file, this only seems to happen with Brienne's Spellpower, and no one else. Looking closer, many companions have Attack or Spellpower stats lower than my Leadership, which according to the quoted text should not be happening.

This suggests either that my save is broken (entirely possible it's an old character brought up through many versions), or that Leadership doesn't work like the game says it does.

Are you checking in-battle? As far as I know, leadership bonus is only calculated once you're in combat.

EDIT: I tried it with my leadership optimising character (70 leadership hell yeah) and leadership bonuses do apply during combat, though there's an interesting interaction where Brienne's leadership bonus for spellpower is applied constantly. It doesn't duplicate during combat though so it's fine, just weird.

It sounds like we need an "Effective Leadership Bonus" stat under each of the stats that Leadership modifies so we can get a handle on what the stat is really worth.

No, I wasn't checking in-battle because I expected the stat pages in the journal to include all relevant active buffs anyway, like Brienne's spellpower does.
