I've noticed this a few different places but didn't mark down exactly when it happened.
However, it seems that if something shifts the target of Soul Arrow, it no longer heals the user, even if the full damage is inflicted. See below for an example:
My amateur speculation is that the game is checking for damage dealt to the original target when it probably should just be "damage dealt".
