Balancing the game so that one can finish it with starting equipment is fine. But players should be rewarded beyond flavour for going out of their way to find rare equipment. I'm not saying they need to be heads and shoulders above the starting equipment, but steady improvements should be noted...

I do hope not too many things get nerfed. While I understand the desire to make every item viable it should not come at the cost of entirely removing a sense of progression. Otherwise there is hardly any reason to seek out rare and unique equipment.

And even then it's not really worth it. You basically take half the damage you inflict (if you wear the mask). That's pretty bad, especially when a fair few enemies have more health than our characters.
