I want to talk mo re about well the Nanobots.  The thing on which the plot hangs nearly invisible that makes a truly massive quality of life difference.  So massives it's pretty much the ultimate representation of you privilege.

We're already going to be interacting more with their creator on Uveto but what else will they do who else will interact with them? How transhuman will we ultimately get and how can this fuck us over.

Like for instance a strange thing I noticed on Myrellion is that the Ant fungus can hack your bots.

Seriously. It's like insane.   It reminds me that at a certain level of sophistication that the only difference between nanomachines and biology is the material and often times not even that.   My pulse just sorta froze at that. Like holy fuck she could have went Ghost in the Shell style hacking.

What else can do that to you?   Are you just one badass Tech popping your shields away from turning into goo?   What can you do with them yourself?    Could you in the future pick up a Fungus partner?   Or hell cyber interface with your goo Armor to become Alex Mercer?   She is already hacking biology into weapons upgrades.   ( on a side note I wish that you and hte codex could scan thing for her so you aren't screwed forgetting to carry her around even when the thing she hacks stays there.)

How will these interact with psionics?

Are these the reason you can carry several tonnes of body weight?

Could you develop the technology to force infect people with your surgeons? Or turn your sperm into surgeons to upgrade people?    Can your kids inherit them?  Are they learning and improving with experience?

How deep does this rabbit hole go?  Or am I overthinking this? (probably yes.)

I'll be honest that I'm kinda looking forward to goo armor getting further and further upgraded. Maybe to the point when it can be integrated into other armors in some way or worn as an undersuit as I'm kinda tired of the armor being a bit too easily the best choice for 2/3 of the classes. Integrating her with your own internal tech would be even better though, and if I can have my own mushroom stand as well, I'd be pretty fucking happy.

Also I'm somewhat peeved that I would have to lose to mimbranes in order to be infected with them. I would like their benefits without tarnishing my perfect battle score.

Story events only, mostly bad ends.  Hand So uses them in this manner in her bad end.  It should not happen often.

What can you do with them yourself?

You know how you eat things you find on the ground and don't die?  You can do that.

Could you in the future pick up a Fungus partner?

Possibly, but partner characters are a pain in the ass so probably not.

Or hell cyber interface with your goo Armor to become Alex Mercer?   She is already hacking biology into weapons upgrades.   ( on a side note I wish that you and hte codex could scan thing for her so you aren't screwed forgetting to carry her around even when the thing she hacks stays there.)

Not unless someone feels like writing it.  Sharing parts of the Galomax code would be the only way I could see it happening.

How will these interact with psionics?

They won't.

Are these the reason you can carry several tonnes of body weight?

No.  It's a video game.

Could you develop the technology to force infect people with your surgeons?

No.

Or turn your sperm into surgeons to upgrade people?

No.

Can your kids inherit them?

No.  They are specifically tuned for you.

Are they learning and improving with experience?

No.  They collect data but do not self-evolve like the gray goo do.

How deep does this rabbit hole go?  Or am I overthinking this? (probably yes.)

Yes.

They're akin to a Macguffin at the very least. Sorta like just being able to shrug off stuff with lolfuture.

I imagine at the very least, we'll be able to further augment ourselves into Adam Jensen knock offs. Which opens the door to them being both physical and mental upgrades for your playstyle of choice. It'd probably be like XCOM where you have a few areas to upgrade, each upgrade for different styles of combat.

The idea of them being transferable to offspring seems likely, given all they'd need to do is reproduce themselves and then travel through the bloodstream (if Steele carries the child) or possibly though the sperm if the father. I imagine it wouldn't work with eggs, as the shell is usually fully developed when they're put into you. This does open the door to infecting others, but I'm not sure what that could accomplish beyond them acting like a cancer, attacking everything.

But of course, I'm merely picking questions and speculating. It all comes down to the developers and anyone willing to write.

Ok.

Actually funny.

I was thinking Like a Pod up grade? Sorta like the Dong designer? But for the body.  Possibly gate. Might be annoying to code.

Ah.

But Vidya games have explanation too. Like literal magic. Pokeball tech. Or being massively superhuman due to eugenic and Nanomachines. But still thanks.

Darn. I'm guessing the getting new sets for crew mates is probably and epilogue thing.

Darn.

Darn.

That's probably good. Them sponteneously developing sentience would be an issue.

Thought so but thank you for entertaining the questions politely.  I apreciate it.

It is worth noting that even with the microsurgeons, Bess/Ben makes a drink that knocks the player out if they choose to drink it. The nanos work really well, but there are still some things that can overwelm the microsurgeons the first time they are taken.

Actually the Myth Busters did a special video game episode that deals with carrying a bunch of equipment. I suggest you find and watch it. Some parts of the episode are very interesting actually.

Also keep in mind that, ya know, FUTURE. Lots of lightweight materials.

What does the availability of lightweight materials have to do with how much weight our characters can carry?

I mean, one of my mercenaries could carry almost 5 tons (or over 5 tons if you insist on archaic measurements).

Actually, they do little against lot of non-lethal things. Alcohol, drugs, pheromones work just fine on player.

I suspect, given the man Victor was, that was an intentional feature of the microsurgeons.

So, if an assassin attacked Steele with some sort of volatile poison, we'd shrug it off once the nanos catch up?

I wonder if Techs might get a perk representing futzing with that at will. Maybe massive lust rest or even immunity to non psioinics shut off by fantisizing.

This would actually be nice class development direction. Technically, they are totally able to morph you without limits (this is how "food" TFs working, after all). All you need is some control over them instead of full-auto mode.

I'm fairly certain that, no matter how tech savvy they will become with experience, Tech Specialists won't receive anything with enough processing power to control the microsurgeons as a part of their class kit. Not to mention the OP-factor of becoming immune to non-psionic Lust.

Hand So and Nova seem like the most obvious generally available options for interfacing with those wondrous little things.

The main thing I would like to see regarding them is an option to save and restore a certain look, something people have already mentioned as a part of an upgraded ship Medbay. Only with microsurgeon control you'd be able to do that on the fly.
