I believe that the main differences are the stage of corruption in which the world is and the way the PC relates to the world! Corruption is like a disease that spreads across the dimensions of the multiverse and consumes the worlds! In CoC1, the champion is literally thrown into a world already ravaged by demons, a world where Lethice was just a few steps away from reaching her nefarious goals, and the missing piece for her victory or defeat would be the Champion herself. In this contest, Mareth would be a terminally ill patient, the Champion would be like a medicine that could totally cure him or make it worse! In CoC2, we have a world still "virginal" in the words of Kasyrra itself, and Campeao is now a native of Savarra with all the reasons to prevent the loudly proclaimed Demon Queen. This time we are seeing what could have been the initial stages of the fall of Mareth, with the corruption spreading and changing the nature itself (as we saw in the clearing of the Old Forest). Now we have a chance to make a difference and prevent this tragedy before it's too late, saving billions of souls and preventing history like those of Urta, Kiha, Arian, Loppe, Vala, Valeria, Jojo or Amily from repeating. Or speed up the process and plunge headlong into corruption. It is clear that this time the concepts would be much more catastrophic, since while Mareth was a pocket world isolated from the other dimensions, with most portals being one-way streets, Savarra is a world in full right in the FPM (Fenoxo Pornographic Multiverse™), which means she can travel to other dimensions through the portals! In short, corruption is a disease, Mareth was patient zero, Savarra was the first to be infected, and if the disease is not contained, it will spread throughout the Multiverse!
