Too dumb too deafeat Jean-Claude

So I finally made it to the end dungeon and I don't get a chance to do ANYTHING against the basilisks.

I found somewhere that I need to have at least 80 INT to even be able to fight him.
But my character is all Bro'ed up and can't get more than 30 INT. Is my game just ruined now?

It's the only way through the stronghold, and as far as I'm aware the Stronghold is the last part of the story?

If I remember correctly the only other way to get past him is to have speed > 90 or something.
At least in the revamp, because I remember running past him not fighting him.

If you can defeat the mirror doppelganger you can get past him without fighting. I think.
