Thrown weapons

I'm a new player. I just got the Wyvern Sting ability, and I wanted to try it out so I bought a francisca from Ogrish, equipped it in my offhand, and went north. When I got into battle, the Wyvern Sting option was greyed out, saying I didn't meet the requirements for the ability. It was my understanding from the wiki that thrown weapons could be used for ranged skills, so I don't understand. Is the problem that it's in my offhand? If so, then is there any advantage to using two weapons other than specific dual-wielding skills?

I think it's more because Leorah teaches you archery/bow powers rather than ones that work with thrown weapons as well - can't call it archery if it works with kunai or flame daggers.

Though currently looking to see if her skills say anything about requiring a bow.

Yes.

Yes. But your main hand weapon is what qualifies you for power usage. Try switching which weapon is in which hand.
